Charles Pouaha must stay!
Urgent: Please help stop the removal of Charles Beaudelaire Pouaha On British Airways Flight BA302 at 6:20am Thursday 14 July "I escaped Cameroon and came to England on the 26th of November 2002, but instead of finding refuge here I have been drowning in problems; since I came to this country and presented myself to immigration as an asylum-seeker, I have suffered the evils that I was trying to forget yet again. I have been held in detention since the 29th August 2003. Because I know my situation is very dangerous in Cameroon, and I know how failed asylum seekers who are deported to Cameroon are treated, I resisted deportation." Charles Pouaha
This will be the sixth attempt to remove Charles.
Charles has been fighting for two and half years for the right to asylum in Britain. Charles survived detention & torture in Cameroon only to have his case for asylum refused at every turn, despite all the evidence he has provided of what happened to him and how much he is at risk if he is returned.

Having released their own separate media statements in response to the disappointing G8 communique, War on Want and the World Development - 2 UK based development NGOs who have been uneasy about the way in which Make Poverty History has been co-opted by the government and its celebrities - were so disgusted by the Bono and Geldof press conference that they issued a joint statement in condemnation. The question is: why it is only these 2 NGOs who have the guts to come out and speak truth to power?

Morning on the 6th July near Stirling. We see the M9 being blockaded by radical drummers who pile trees and rocks on the road. They move on when 9 Police vans turn up at high speed. But their exit into a field of cows starts a stampede. One protester is injured by. And the farmer turns up at high speed in his 4x4 and starts to threaten the protesters with a hammer. Police then run in to arrest just about everyone including the farmer.

On Monday 4th July we came back to Edinburgh from the peaceful and inspiring blockade of Faslane nuclear submarine base. On the way home when we got to Princes Street we saw a small crowd of people and a large number of riot police. We walked down Hanover Street unchallenged, as did dozens of other bystanders, curious about the assembled riot police who blocked off Princes Street on either side of the assembled group. We interviewed and filmed young protestors who were playing the Darth Vader tune on a kazoo and waving peace flags in front of a line of riot police. The atmosphere was relaxed. Some people were snoozing in the afternoon sun. Tourists were taking snapshots. Most of the people in the area were observers like ourselves.

We saw him from the bus and ran to interview him. It's difficult to tell from this short interview how deeply this man cares about Africa. To be honest he seems quite tired and a little strung out from Live8. Rather than comment he licked the camera.
