End Terrorism: Ask Questions
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” (i)On Wednesday 27th July I went to Al-Khader, southwest of Bethlehem, where three family homes had just been demolished. I had been taking part in a house-rebuilding project in Anata in East Jerusalem, and that morning we’d received a call telling us about Al-Khader and jumped into taxis as quickly as we could. Unfortunately, the bulldozers had come and gone by the time we got there. I remember, when we arrived, seeing an old woman sitting alone on what remained of her house, crying and hitting her hands together. As we got nearer I saw that a whole family were sitting on the rubble – women and men and lots of young boys, just sitting there in silence. A few of us went over to speak to them and take photos and give sweets to the children – I think we mostly felt pretty awkward and useless. I know I felt utterly at a loss when, in response to my request for a photo, one woman simply spread her hands as if to say “I’m sitting on the ruins of my house, what difference does it make?”

Residents and traders from Balsall Heath and Moseley recently met up at St. Paul's school to discuss how to regenerate the area affected by the Tornado devastation back in July. The meeting was initiated by the Balsall Heath Forum. One of the proposals made by a group of local residents was to organise a local grass-roots group without political or vested interests to help administer the Tornado Relief fund. Then at the end of the meeting Dick Atkinson from the Balsall Heath Forum and Esther proposed using 'The Birmingham Foundation' to setup and administer a Tornado Relief Fund. When asked who exactly 'The Birmingham Foundation' were, they replied that they were "the great and the good of Birmingham".
Online petition: Support British Residents detained at Guantanamo
Detainees in Guantanamo Bay on Hunger Strike. At least 210 detainees have been on hunger strike since 11 August in protest at their conditions. An earlier hunger strike was stopped when the US authorities promised some changes. They reneged on these promises and the detainees have resumed their protest.
Anyone familiar with the Irish hunger strikes of the 1980s will realise that these detainees are at a critical stage – it’s a matter of life and death. Please contact your MP and urge him/her to press the British government to raise the matter with the American authorities as a matter of urgency.
Detainees have now been held at Guantanamo for over three years without proper access to a due process of law. Their families are refused access and they are not even allowed proper access to their legal representatives and where that access is allowed unreasonable restrictions are placed on the lawyers concerned.
This situation needs to be resolved and proper rule of law established in places that are used as prisons by the American administraion and its allies. Britain needs to use its so-called "special relationship" with USA for its residents currently held at Guantanamo and get the USA to honour internationally accepted norms on treatment of prisoners and the rule of law.

From bad to worse is the new sub-text slogan for Bush and his administration. Appearing on US media, flanked by Cheney, Rumsfeld and numerous other (wooden) neo-cons, Bush repeated his rehearsed lines – “we are problem solvers”. This statement met with numerous reporters clearing their throats; the problem is Bush and his inept administration. The emperor is not only without clothes but is also devoid of ability. The corporate driven Bush government is learning that managing a nation has little in common with running an oil company. [Those best suited for government are dedicated to the selfless service of others – a concept totally alien to conservative ideology.]Nuclear "strike" in Derby 22-24 October
