Frome Friends of Palestine - Gaza Vigil and Discussions with Lloyds

Local activists in Frome, Somerset, held a vigil for the innocent victims of the Gaza strip today, raising awareness and support for the opposition to this horrific massacre. Several of us also visited the local branch of Lloyd's Bank to discuss their plans to shut down Palestinian charity Interpal.

Yesterday was the worst day of bombardment for Gaza yet you wouldn't know that from UK TV, newspapers or radio. Today seems just as bad so far although the media are still only talking about fake peace deals, weasel words and crocodile tears. We have to assume the killing is going to accelerate until the politicians are motivated. WE are OUR politicians only motivation.

A record number of people gathered in Cornmarket St Oxford on Thursday evening, January 8, to protest against the ongoing Israeli attack on Gaza. All sections of the community were represented and people stood in the cold for two hours with banners, placards and candles, some waving Palestinian flags. The vigil was followed by a meeting in the Town Hall of the Oxford Stop the War Coalition.

People came from far and near came, to hold their candles and share the cold and the sadness for others further away where electricity, water. food and ordinary daily needs are not being met because of savage oppression, killing, maimings and bombing.

Hanthala turned up, I reflect he was saddened and if you could have seen his face there were tears of blood - yet he held a bright candle with us - he holds a candle even now whilst many of us sleep he holds it high - hope happens in community never alone, alone we despair.

Report: Militant Picket of M&S in Newcastle 08.01.09

Tonight over 30 people took part in a noisy and angry picket of Marks and Spencer, Britain's biggest corporate sponsor of Israel. A banner was held across the main entrance and information was distributed to passers-by. Many members of the public took the opportunity to join the picket and express their anger at Israel's actions in Gaza and Britain's continuing complicity.
