An oppressor’s bus lane brings only more misery at Qalandia

14-01-2011 07:51

Crossing Qalandia to get from the Palestinian West Bank in to Palestinian East Jerusalem is normally just a boring and pointless delay combined with an unpleasant interaction with a soldier. But the new bus lane gives Israel's private security contractors a chance to really have some fun. Acting out as if they were on a beach playing volleyball, they defend Israel valiantly from grandmothers and children.

Protesters Tell New York Business to Stop Providing Israel’s Lethal Tear Gas

14-01-2011 04:29

New York, NY, January 11 – Thirty-five protesters gathered during the lunch hour today outside the midtown Manhattan offices of Point Lookout Capital Partners, a New York firm that facilitates investment in Combined Systems Inc. (CSI). CSI, based in Pennsylvania, sells tear gas to the Israeli army that the Israeli army has then used to kill and seriously injure a number of unarmed protesters in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, including on January 1, 36-year-old Jawaher Abu Rahmah from the village of Bil’in.

Dave Lippman from Adalah-NY explained, “The Israeli military is using tear gas manufactured by CSI and financed through Point Lookout Capital as a weapon to crush the growing unarmed protest movement against Israel’s illegal confiscation of Palestinian land for Israeli settlements. We as US taxpayers are paying for some of the tear gas that Israel is shooting at Palestinian, Israeli and American protesters. The US government needs to stop providing this deadly aid, and CSI and Point Lookout need to end their complicity in Israel’s violent repression of legitimate protest.”

Christian Arabs’ Plight: Foreign ‘Protection’ Counterproductive

12-01-2011 12:31

Unfortunately, this traditional European divide – and – rule policy in the Arab world, as it was the case for centuries, is today finding ample papal blessing from the Vatican to justify itself, not in the eyes of Arabs, but in the eyes of its own audiences. President Sarkozy’s whistle blower cry this January 6 that Christians in the Arab – Islamic world are victims of a planned ‘religious cleansing,” came on the backdrop of the Vatican’s Pope Benedict XVI repeated call on the world leaders to rise up for the protection and “defense of the Christians in the Middle East.”

Israel Off Your Trolley protest, Newcastle, January 8th 2011

09-01-2011 17:57

Palestine Action Group (PAG) organised a lively creative protest in Newcastle city centre on Saturday 8th January. Activists constructed a huge symbolic apartheid wall covered with information about companies that support Israel. The six-metre banner provided both an arresting spectacle for passers by, who came to find out more from the information on both sides, and a great way to connect shopping activity in Newcastle to the continuing murder of Palestinians.

The Deadly Experiment – Israel’s Murderous Testing Ground for ‘Non-Lethal’ Weapons

04-01-2011 19:45

Tear gas fired from a vehicle mounted launcher in Bil'in

“The Israeli government and its army have been for years now using the West Bank and Gaza as their testing ground. The Palestinians are their guinea pigs. The Israeli army uses tear gas that would probably be banned in any other countries in the world. They shoot tear gas, directly at protesters, once again, an illegal act. But a very rewarding one. Israel’s security industry is booming. It’s never been this good. Countries all over the world are buying Israel’s expertise in security, crowd control and weaponry every day. Israeli soldiers are training other countries commandos all over the planet”[1]

Media Lens Alert: Tilting Towards Israel

04-01-2011 17:06

Towards the end of last year, we sent out two media alerts - Put The Palestinians On A Diet and Too Toxic To Handle? - about the corporate media's failure to report the release of documents detailing Israel's deliberate policy of near-starvation for Gaza. "The idea", explained a senior Israeli official, "is to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger." The human rights group Gisha published explicit Israeli formulas for the amount of food, animal feed and poultry to be allowed into Gaza, and the cold calculation of "breathing space": the number of days before these essential supplies would run out.

Wikileaks: Israel Plans Total War on Lebanon, Gaza

04-01-2011 10:46

The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten  http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/uriks/wikileaks/article3969332.ece has summarized an Israeli military briefing by Israeli Chief of Staff Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi of a US congressional delegation a little over a year ago and concludes that

"‘ The memo on the talks between Ashkenazi and [Congressman Ike] Skelton, as well as numerous other documents from the same period of time, to which Aftenposten has gained access, leave a clear message: The Israeli military is forging ahead at full speed with preparations for a new war in the Middle East."
