The Dublin Port Tunnel Scam

23-08-2006 22:33

The €1 billion euro Dublin Port Project, directed by Halliburton subsidiary KBR, has been plagued with construction problems, and from this viewpoint alone looks like becoming another financial black hole to the benefit of a military contractor. But there is more to the story: back in 1990, when there was a chance to move Dublin Port, thus providing room for much-needed expansion and removing Port traffic from the city streets, the State chose instead to leave the Port where is was and instead build the Port Tunnel. Earlier this year, the Progressive Democrats, partner in the Irish government, revived the plan to move the Port, when the tunnel was almost complete. This article examines why.

The Radley Lakes - An environmental Cause Celebre

17-08-2006 16:02

RWE NPower, the German-owed Power Company that runs the ageing Didcot "A" coal-fired power station is adamantly detrmined to destroy a beautiful lake in the Oxfordshire Green Belt by turning it into a Waste Dump for pulverised fuel ash (PFA) despite the existence of better alternatives. The Company has refused to look at recycling options, preferring instead to pay the paltry £2.00 per tonne landfill tax. The Station Manager has so often said "We are in the business of generating electricity, not selling Ash". So, because coal is cheap, Didcot burns more and more instead of gas, and generates more waste, more profits for its shareholders, and leaves a noxious legacy for future generations by its failure to address recycling alternatives, which other Power Stations have done.

Countryside Properties- Mayfield...and a field in May 2004...

17-08-2006 11:53

Spodden Valley woodland destroyed in May 2004...
Countryside Properties have gone into advertising overdrive with its new housing development at the former Mayfield rugby club in Castleton.

After being criticised for illegal flyposting earlier this year:  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/manchester/2006/03/336159.html

Countryside Properties have now paid Rochdale Council for road signs and half page colour advertisements in the Council's newspaper "Local matters" delivered to every home in the Borough.

There has also been a huge advertising spend by Countryside Properties with the Guardian Media Group in their Homesearch sections of the Rochdale Observer, Manchester Evening News and TV station Channel M.

It is a pity that Countryside Properties' budget doesn't cover the destruction of Woodlands in the Spodden Valley.

Mayfield and a field in May... here is the connection...

16-08-2006 21:49

We are calling for all people who can to arrive in Leeds from Monday August 21 and head to the Common Place, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds LS2 7EQ. This is to build all the infrastructure ready to occupy the site. This is a mammoth task and the more people we have the more infrastructure is ready when we occupy the site and the less has to be built there. No DIY knowledge is needed as the highly skilled site practicalities group will be there to make sure everything goes smoothly!
