This is an amazing opportunity to actually start making the changes we need to make. No more hot air from politicians and "business solutions" but really doing it now.

Location: Next to Barlow common Nature Reserve, off the A1041(T) north of Camblesforth south of Selby grid ref 635 287. Turn down Barlow common road andh you will find it!

LIMITED parking is available near the site but will be prioritised to those that need it. Other wise people will have to "drop and go" and park in Selby (ask on site for parking).

There will be a shuttle service from Selby train station to the site. Outside the train station is a climate camp info point. Call 07789362772 (from Saturday).

See  http://www.climatecamp.org.uk for further details.

Getting to the Camp
 http://www.climatecamp.org.uk/location.htm

Location, location, location

The camp is taking place on Barlow Common, 2-3km NW of the Drax perimeter fence.
Directions

By public transport: take the train to Selby. From there, you have a number of options.

By road: from junction 34 of the M62, head north up the A19. Just after the village of Burn, turn right onto Common Lane. At the end of the road, turn right onto the A1041, heading towards Camblesforth. Take the first left onto Barlow Road, then left onto Barlow Common Road. You will see a track on your left: turn down it, and stop outside the big field with lots of marquees in it.

From Selby or the A63, head south down the A1041. Turn left onto Barlow Common Road, follow the road round to your right, and you'll see the track on your right.

You can't miss the camp!

tripods, wellies, cops & kids

25.08.2006 23:33

The double decker tripod (3 tripods with another on top!) was the first such ever in the UK.

As of Friday afternoon, the sun was blazing down so you didn't need wellies, but you know how the weather can change on these here isles, so you'll just have to make that decision for yourself. I'd suggest either wellies or walking boots - who knows where you may want to tramp on Thursday or before...!

So far the cops are very friendly and facilitating the camp. Having said that, they are of course taking their usual holiday snaps. The first lot of cops to arrive on site, quite a while after we did, with a little egg on their face welcomed us to Yorkshire, and said that "we're all on the edge of an abyss", and how something needed to be done. Whether they stay as welcoming as the week wears on is of course another question - maybe their like the British weather...

Don't suggest a 'kids block' - bring your kids and organise it!

Ta for the media numbers - people are already well on the case.

And by the by, though we will have limited internet access on site, we don't at the moment, being in the middle of a field and all that, so you'll have to contact us by coming along, or in the worse case scenario, looking at the website for the contact phone numbers.

mud report

26.08.2006 00:10

when i left on Thursday midday, the ground hadn't begun to churn up yet, but at that time only 100 or so people had been on site.

from what was said on site, the field had been left as scrub for some time and only cut back two weeks ago (pretty convenient really!) - which means a lot of established roots.

as for pigs, there definately was a limited presence. most that was there at any one time was about 5-6. FIT had turned up with video cameras and started taking pictures of people. no searches though and vehicles were entering and leaving the site freely.

just as i was leaving the owner was walking on to site and I caught a glimpse of his rather bemused expression. he didn't seem that angry really, but i left before i could see him speak to any of the campers.

As you can see in the picture, Drax is very close!

hope everyone has a good time.
