Meltdown: Global warming by the numbers

The IPCC estimates global warming to be between 2.4 and six degrees by the end of the cnetury. Recent research is putting warming on the order of four and 7.6 degrees C. This is 'dangerous' warming that will cause runaway feedback processes leading to a warming of ten to fifteen degrees over the next couple of centuries; the lifetime of your grandchildren.

Fur shops in Oslo under attack

"The Norwegian ALF, Dyrenes Frigjøringsfront, has claimed responsibility for several actions against fur shops in Oslo this year. Other groups of anonymous activists have also taken action against almost every fur shop in Oslo."

Summary: 15 attacks at fur shops, some of which were return visits, and 1 home visit at an owner of a fur shop. Is Oslo going to be the new Stockholm for the ALF?

Defending the Wild

To defend the wild is no small thing, because it is the Earth that is being defended. The Earth is wild and that is more important than we are. When groups like Sea Shepherd or EarthFirst! defend the wild, they are condemned as ‘violent’ and ‘extreme’, but they are working to continue the wild, the life that exists independently of us. The wild Earth that does not need us, does not know us, but is threatened by us. The wild Earth needs no defence but it needs more defenders.

Action at World Biofuels Market, Brussels

Thursday morning, 08.00. Activists make an attempt to block all 7 sets of entrance doors and 2 gates to the World Biofuels Market held in Brussels this week. All but one set of doors succeeded. The action ended after 3 hrs with three people arrested, who were released after a few hours.

Kirkby waste incineration "power station" sneaked through without scrutiny

"Reserved powers" have been used by members of the ruling Lib Dem group in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire to approve a plan for a power station in Kirkby. What is worse, the "power station" is one of the new generation of rebadged incinerators.

Peace activist challenges Trident nuclear weapons in court

The legality of Britain’s Trident nuclear weapons was challenged in court last Friday in the trial of a peace activist from London.

PEACE campaigner Daniel Viesnik, 33, from north London questioned the legality of Trident nuclear weapons before Newbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday 7 March as he faced trial on the minor charge of obstructing the highway. The alleged offence involved a peaceful sit-down protest that took place on 27 July 2007 at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston [1] in Berkshire, in the southeast of England, where Britain’s nuclear warheads are manufactured. According to Mr Viesnik, the protest was a statement of his passionate opposition to nuclear weapons in general and to the British Government’s plans to replace or renew Trident.

Sea Shepherd rebuked by IWC as Rumours emerge of Compromise on Whaling

Reports from the International Whaling Commission 3 day intercessional meeting in London say that commercial whaling may be allowed but the scientific loophole which has allowed Japan to whale in the Antarctic may be closed. This would allow Japan to whale commercially in the north Pacific regulated by the IWC. The meeting also rebuked Sea Shepherd over "Safety at Sea".
