The Fusion of Peak Oil & Climate Change

04-12-2005 18:48

Peak Oil and Climate Change are a bigger threat together than either are alone. Our biggest hope is to similarly converge our understanding of them, and how to deal with the problems they present. Peak Oil and Climate Change must be fused as issues – an approach is needed to deal with them as a package.

Worldwide, demonstrations and protests have been announced to coincide with the meeting of the World Leaders in Montreal.
In Edinburgh about 200 protesters stood up against rain, cold and Xmas shopping to protest against the environmental-hostile, carbondioxide-blasting politics of the Scottish Executive via increased road-building schemes, such as the M74 extension, the Dalkeith Bypass and A701 Alignment, airport extensions and others.

European Environment Agency Report Outlines Severe Climate Threat

01-12-2005 12:45

Europe must act now on climate change or 'feel the heat '

Climate change heads a series of environmental challenges facing Europe, says a new assessment, which forecasts ice sheets melting in the north and deserts spreading from the south, with the population crowded into a central area, unless urgent action is taken.

"The European Environment – State and Outlook 2005", is a five-year assessment across 31 countries. It says areas of concern, other than climate change, include biodiversity, marine ecosystems, land and water resources, air pollution and health. For the first time, the report has a country by country analysis with performance indicators and comparisons for all of the participants: the EU 25 plus Bulgaria, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Romania, Turkey and including Switzerland.

"Policy makers, businesses and individuals must act now on a range of environmental matters or pay a heavy price later" says the European Environment Agency (EEA).

Air expansion fatcats shamed by Tower Bridge protest.

29-11-2005 22:47

Protesters on the Bridge
Air industry executives were forced to scuttle from coaches to the safety of Tower Bridge tonight, as a small but noisy protest took them to task over the UK's air expansion plans.

Delegates arriving for a morale boosting dinner high above Tower Bridge were shielded by a line of police whilst subjected to jeers and chants of "Shame". A WPC blocked me from photographing the event until I provided a Press Card.
