Scarborough Climate Action Network opens community resource centre.

After being inspired into action by the fight against global climate chaos, the Scarborough Climate Action group have opened "Green Planet", a community resource centre for education, information and participation on the east coast of Yorkshire.

They aim to provide a central point for people in the local area to find out how they can make positive changes to their environment, as well as providing an autonomous space for people to use the internet, meet like-minded people and get directly involved with the newly burgeoning Scarborough activist networks.

JNC Squats Resist Double Eviction

Occupied social centres operating under the Justice Not Crisis banner, thanks to a spirited resistance from the squatters and supporters, escaped eviction on Tuesday. The squats however remain on high eviction alert, and request all supporters to mobilise.

The long awaited film, The Age of Stupid, opens at Broadway with the all day 'Nottingham Not Stupid Festival', whilst the Coal Caravan gathers at Sumac, West Bridgford launches their Green Streets Initiative, and all comes together for a Critical Mass Bike Ride.

Return of the Luddites

In fifteen months at the beginning of the second decade of the 19th century a movement of craft workers and their supporters declared war on the then emerging industrial society. The movement spread across the Northern counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It smashed thousands of machines, looted markets, burned down factories and spread hope of a way out of the bleak future being offered by state and industries. It was a movement that, in the words of the late radical historian E.P. Thompson; "in sheer insurrectionary fury has rarely been more widespread in English History,".

Towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century nearly 200 years later, a new age of Luddites return with an insurrection in México. Over a hundred phone booths of multinational exploiter and bullfight sponser Telmex have been sabotaged using cutters, paint, glue and fire. The Luddites are showing resistance to anthropocentrism (human supremacy), civilization and the domestication of wild nature, using radical methods of sabotage for animal and earth liberation.

U.S. Prisons Used to House Muslim, Animal Rights and Environmental Activists

The government is using secretive prison facilities on U.S. soil, called Communication Management Units, to house inmates accused of being tied to “terrorism” groups. They overwhelmingly include Muslim inmates, along with at least two animal rights and environmental activists.

Little information is available about the secretive facilities and the prisoners housed there. However, through interviews with attorneys, family members, and a current prisoner, it is clear that these units have been created not for violent and dangerous “terrorists,” but for political cases that the government would like to keep out of the public spotlight and out of the press.

Earth First! Occupies Director's Office at E.On HQ (Netherlands)

Four activists from GroenFront! (the Dutch Earth First!) occupied a director's office at the head office of energy giant E.On today in Rotterdam. The activists told the people working at the office that they were looking for the directors for a 'serious chat' about the planned construction of a new coal fired power station in Rotterdam. Although legal issues should have hindered E.On on starting construction at the site, work has has been pushed ahead regardless. Activist Roos van Dijck: " Building a coal fired power station now is criminal, solving the climate crisis starts with keeping coal in the ground. "

The four activists occupied the room of Chief Financial Officer Markus Bokelmann. Although he has various books on sustainable businessing on his book shelf, he doesn't seem to be able to put this into practice yet. Police arrived after a few hours and arrested the activists. None of the E.On directors were willing to participate in a conversation about the planned construction of the power plant.

On Thursday 5 February at around 3.30pm thirteen comrades were arrested in an annual anti-bullfighting protest in Mexico City. During the protest there was a confrontation with the police and some vehicles were damaged.
