14-01-2005 06:43

A scientific report released in Britain 0n 7 December 2004 said that one-third of the world's oceans should be declared protected areas to stop the wholesale slaughter of fish species. Such an extreme measure is necessary because whole ecosystems are on the verge of collapse, the report argues.

ACT for Rosia Montana: Romanian activists resist Gold Mine!

08-01-2005 11:08

In Romania, centred on the village of Rosia Montana, locals are fighting against the development of the largest gold mine in Europe, a development which has received inter-national condemnation: the gold will be mined using cyanide technology, a procedure which has caused catastrophical environmental damage in the past. Local people, with interational support, have resisted this strongly. This is one of the most vociferous movements in Romania!

MSF BURIED STORY - FAIR AND EQUAL TREATMENT FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS

03-01-2005 14:04

It would appear that many aid agencies are giving preferential treatment to rich tourists affected by the Tsunami victims instead of those living in the stricken areas. This alongside the weasel words of Tony Blair apparently supported by George Bush is unacceptable. I am no fan of many NGOs as I see most of them propping up the mess left by oppressive and brutal empirical powers but I truly believe that the only organisation with any real credential is MSF (Medecins San Frontieres) Why do I think this, please read below:

ONLY RICH GETTING TSUNAMI AID - SUPPORT WORK OF MSF

02-01-2005 13:37

Yesterday Channel Four reported how poor Tsunami victims effectively seafaring villagers on the coastland in Thailand had not received aid because rich tourists were being given preferential treatment. This is even more unacceptable given that western governments are already making efforts to help citizens in their own areas leaving poor people with little or no assistance. In this instance, it would be best to support organisations like medecins san frontieres who are make a point of going into all areas and ensure everyone receives fair and equal treatment.
