Colossal Financial Collapse: The Truth behind the Citigroup Bank "Nationalizatio

29-11-2008 19:13

"The scale of the hidden losses of perhaps the twenty largest US banks is so enormous that if not before, the first Presidential decree of President Barack Obama will likely have to be declaration of a US ‘Bank Holiday’ and the full nationalization of the major banks, taking on the toxic assets and losses until the economy can again function with credit flowing to industry once more."

"The health of Citigroup is not the only gripping crisis that must be dealt with. At this point, political and ideological bickering in the US Congress has so far prevented a simple emergency $25 billion loan extension to General Motors and other of the US Big Three automakers—Ford and Chrysler. The absurd spectacle of US Congressmen attacking the chairmen of the Big Three for flying to the emergency Congressional hearings on a rescue loan in their private company jets while largely ignoring the issue of consequences to the economy of a GM failure underscores the utter lack of touch with reality that has overwhelmed Washington in recent years."

Bradford kids, still doing time, 33 days in detention

They had their second bail hearing yesterday and were refused bail. According to their mother the immigration judge wasn't happy with the sureties, so refused to release the children and their parents. It is as ever unacceptable that children 1) are detained and 2) have to suffer the whims of the judiciary as to the conditions/terms that they the judiciary will grant bail. In cases where children are detained for more than seven days and all legal avenues have not been resolved; the 'Children's Commissioner' should be able to step in immediately as an an independent authority, with the authority to release the children on the 'Commissioners' terms.

Bath ‘We won’t pay for their crisis!’ – Demo report and reflections

23-11-2008 13:22

Saturday 22nd of Nov was a busy day for Bath activists. An info stall raised £100 for local animal rights groups and the Bath vegan fayre gave out free vegan food and dietary, ethical and environmental advice to over 300 punters. On top of all that, Bath Activist Network and friends took to the streets to protest the financial crisis/bank bailouts and kick start a campaign aimed at practically resisting the effects of recession in our communities.
