Unite Bus Comes To Cambridge

A big blue bus comes to town...
Yesterday afternoon "Unite the Union"'s tour bus came to town, promoting the newest (and possibly most affordable) trade union, which, unlike many other unions also includes membership options for the unemployed.

This is part of a countrywide tour to promote the union.

A report from Islington Hands Off Our Public Services about the People's Assembly Against Austerity on 22 June 2013. 4,000-plus delegates heard that they should set up local assemblies against austerity and debate a draft statement. Union leaders said they would back industrial action supported by workers.

David Rovics to play at a venue in Brum that uses Workfare!

On Monday 10th June 2013 David Rovics will be playing at the 'Kitchen Garden Cafe' in the suburbs of Kings Heath in Birmingham.

The Kitchen Garden Cafe models itself as some kind of locally sourced organic ethical eatery. It's a shame it doesn't extend this consideration to how it treats it staff. The fact is this business, the deli in particular, has definitely had workfare placements. We know this from speaking to staff although the boss has been very evasive and patronising towards customers raising this as an issue.
