Some activists think it's a good thing that mainstream media outlets like The Guardian carry news about protests. They should think again, as this example of on-line advertising illustrates.Woodstock 2009: A Slow Learning Curve?

One generalization, that unfortunately holds true for “many” musicians and rock bands is, despite the fact they often have potentially huge audiences (the marketer’s dream), is that they often have little, if anything, intelligent and insightful to say about social and political issues. But more specifically, they will not likely assert the likelihood—that U.S. sponsored torture of Islamic prisoners has probably rendered “zero” results of quality or worthwhile intelligence (save perhaps what “Israeli” objectives might have wanted).Villagers stage Oldbury anti-nuclear protest

03-08-2009 07:49
What is the point of protest?
To create change. I would have thought that was obvious; it is the only rational response to the question. So why has so little change happened as a result of protest in the Western world in the last 30 years?

Apart from the few blogs on Honduras that we've all been scouring, I think it is of great interest and importance how the argument is being portrayed in the minor US media. You certainly get more facts and coverage in the minor US media than the entitre UK media outlets which are still only reporting two deaths, if you search hard for that detail.Latest EF! 31-07-2009 10:39
One of the many issues concerning nuclear power that the British government, the nuclear industry and their agents would rather ignore: the irrefutable evidence of an increased rate of leukaemia in children living close to nuclear power plants.Wanted: computer games expert to help develop nuclear weapons

29-07-2009 05:50
Newly declassified documents reveal that an active member of Students for a Democratic Society and Port Militarization Resistance in Washington state was actually an informant for the US military. The man everyone knew as “John Jacob” was in fact John Towery, a member of the Force Protection Service at Fort Lewis. The military’s role in the spying raises questions about possibly illegal activity. The Posse Comitatus law bars the use of the armed forces for law enforcement inside the United States. The Fort Lewis military base denied our request for an interview. But in a statement to Democracy Now, the base’s Public Affairs office publicly acknowledged for the first time that Towery is a military operative. “This could be one of the key revelations of this era,” said Eileen Clancy, who has closely tracked government spying on activist organizations.MP3: http://media.libsyn.com/media/democracynow/dn2009-0728-1.mp3

Hillary Clinton is a fascist

The British mainstream news coverage of Honduras has been non-existent. The CNN coverage has been biased, covering up facts that are well known in the rest of the americas and employing right-wing commentators like Robert Armstrong and the Council of Americas ( a US business organisation) while ignoring ALBA, the OAS and even the UN. Even independent english-language coverage has been poor, inaccurate and lacking.Banks Exploiting Extra Credit/Debit Card Fee Loophole
