You might remember an incident from back in January, when a man named John Foley brought the Everton V Manchester City game to a standstill by handcuffing himself to a goalpost. The reasons for his protest were lost amidst the sensationalist media coverage of this event, but he did it to highlight the way low budget airline Ryanair treat would-be employees, like his own daughter Sarah.

Industrial lockouts have been completely unknown in the UK for over fifty years. So it must be far from coincidence that two have taken place on Merseyside during the past month. Though there are slight differences between the cases, both are the result of bosses using the current crisis to lower production costs, and increase the rate of exploitation.

Throughout the month thousands of events and activities are being organised to express solidarity with women fighting for equal rights and recognition, and to highlight the continued gender inequalities and issues still very much prevalent in today’s society.

Protests against workfare will be taking place in 35 (and counting) locations tomorrow as part of a National Day of Action called by Boycott Workfare. For the latest details of all protests visit their website at:  http://www.boycottworkfare.org/?p=359

Despite Chris Grayling's humiliating climbdown on workfare this week, the battle is far from over. The government have not scrapped workfare sanctions. They have removed some sanctions from one of the five schemes.

Just like before, we need to show that companies profiting from forced labour that is not acceptable. Under the Work Programme claimants can be forced to work in private companies for up to six months or face the poverty and possible homelessness that benefit sanctions bring.

A joint workshop of left Communists and Anarchists in the Ukrainean town of Sumi compiled a multi-language edition (French, English, Russian) of Andreu Nin's last known letter, written just 7 days before his arrest on 15th June 1937 in Barcelona and his subsequent death in custody.
Provoked by the film Tierra y Libertad on working-class militancy 1936/37and Nin's party POUM, we decided to make available this revealing letter to English, French and Russian readers.
