Today, Anti-Capitalist activists gave the Lib Dems a less than warm welcome to their conference in Gateshead. The activists dropped a huge banner over one of the Tyne's iconic bridges. Ironically declaring, 'CON-DEM Capitalism'.
The activists were protesting against the Lib Dems' presence in a region devastated by the cuts.
One activist commented, 'The failure of the Liberal Democrats to realise any of their manifesto intentions, good or bad, is symptomatic of the wider corruption of our system, which forces all parties to appoint increasingly to the right of centre. This only goes to show more clearly how money corrupts politics and how democracy is incompatible with capitalism.'
The banner, unfurled from Newcastle's high-level bridge measured roughly 10x16ft. Protesters said they were proud of their achievement today and looked forward to further protest over the course of the conference.
