Statement by the activists of Workers Left Unity Iran

23-02-2006 13:56

The economic policies of Iran's Islamic rulers, in over two and half decades in power have constantly been in pursuit of the interests of world capital. During the rule of successive presidents each with 8 years of government and under deceptive slogans such as 'period of reconstruction’, 'reform' ... the political economy of the Iranian state has been marked by a faithful obedience to neo liberal economic strategy in accordance with the policies of the IMF, the World Bank and in pursuit of a place in the World Trade Organisation, all this within the framework of a plundering corrupt system.

Valentine's Day Protest at Health and Safety Commission (Death by deregulation)

18-02-2006 16:59

Feb 14th: Hazards Campaign held a Valentine's Day Death by Deregulation demo in London outside the
bi-monthly meeting of the Health and Safety Commission, the
government-appointed committee that sets the policy for the Health and Safety Executive.

The protest was drawing attention to the abolition of basic safeguards for workers which they say is happening at an increasing rate as profit takes precidence over people.

‘We love enforcement’ Valentine’s cards were delivered to the new HSE chief executive Geoffrey Podger along with a copy of the damning new report "Total Suck Up", which accuses the watchdog of going walkies from its legal duty to enforce criminal safety law in its haste to adopt the government’s business-friendly ‘better regulation’ agenda.

Postie power on the streets of Belfast. Another story ignored by corporate media

17-02-2006 13:20

Belfast posties: On Strike...
On Valentines Day a march of over 1000 striking postal workers brought Belfast to a standstill. Locals clapped and cheered the strikers on despite hostile coverage in the local papers. The demo was led by a convoy of taxis from different districts of the city both Catholic and Protestant. There has been no post delivered in Belfast for two weeks now. The workers renewed their commitment to continue the strike at a rally following the demo. So how come this has been completely unreported outside of local papers in Northern Ireland? Exactly what is the government and corporate media so scared of?
