Global Vigil for the Global Village
Global Vigils will take place on Sunday, 9 January, Monday, 10 January and Wednesday, 26 January 2005 in cities across the planet. The earthquake and tsunami hit Asia on Sunday December 26th, 2004. We did not mourn immediately because we knew so little. Soon, a fuller understanding of what happened crossed our consciousness. We realised that the earthquake and tsunami HAD hit Asia – but it had also hit the whole world.

MP Accountability: Shaun Woodward - New Labour - St Helens Sth

08-01-2005 16:55

An open letter to Shaun Woodward, New Labour MP for St Helens Sth. In which I examine his actual parliamentary record (support for Iraq War, Tuition Fees, Foundation Hospitals and ID cards), how he (mis)represents his electorate, ask some awkward questions and urge change.
Go to www.PowerToThePeople.org.uk research your MP, name & shame and contact them for an explanation. With the General Election looming, publishing their actual (and most probably poor) record could have a real impact. Hold 'Em To Account!!

Camp 2003
Only a few weeks left and the fifth edition of the Intercontinental Youth Camp will find its realisation in Porto Alegre, Brasil from 24th to 31st of January. While the organizational process has been going on for many months, these days the first campers are already arriving in Parque Harmonia, on the shore of Lake Guaíba in the heart of the city of Porto Alegre, to join in with the construction of the camp. Having surged during the first World Social Forum in January 2001, the camp rapidly developed its own dynamics and concepts and grew quickly counting over 25.000 participants in Porto Alegre in 2003 and more than 4.000 in Mumbai, India in 2004. It joins political discourse and action with practical approaches of convivencia (living together) in a huge laboratory.

Robert Fisk Interview - Middle East in 2004

04-01-2005 13:15

ROBERT FISK: Well, I think that the whole project in Iraq is finished. We are not being told by Mr. Blair in my case and Bush in yours that this is the case, and perhaps through their own misjudgment or their own fantasies, they don't even accept this themselves. But the American project for democracy or whatever its real purposes were, for oil, economic expansion, Middle East fit for Israel, whatever it may have been, that project is finished. It is hopeless. It cannot succeed.
