CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL DAYS OF SOLIDARITY ACTION 8-13/01/05!
REEDOM TO ALL THESSALONIKI PRISONERS!
At June 2003 the summit of the EU bosses took place in Greece, at the Porto Karras Hotel next to the village of Neos Marmaras which is close by to Thessaloniki. For a week demonstrators from all over the world occupied the universities of Thessaloniki and organised marches and actions against the summit of the bosses. During the attack on the red zone (20/06/03) around the hotel where the summit was taking place, the police forces brutally repressed the protestors by using batons, rocks, chemical gases of every kind and even rubber bullets. The last day of the mobilisations (21/06/03) mass protests took place in Thessaloniki where the police attacked the protestors and injured badly many of them. Approximately 130 people were arrested and 29 of them where send to the court house.
7 of them where then imprisoned after all, with the state using fabricated evidence to accuse them. Then during the next months an international campaign of solidarity begun for their release of the imprisoned protestors, who were on hunger strike inside the prison, and in defence of all the arrested of Thessaloniki. The events that took place then are too many to be described right now... from physical and psychological tortures of some prisoners to the state repression to those who internationally showed solidarity to them... after all the 7 were released but they still had to face the state "justice".
Today the state is demanding for a second round. Some of the 29 protestors who were then arrested are still facing the state farce. 7 of them are asked to appear in front of the greek court once more at 13th of January and they are still in danger of being evicted. We have to mention that this is just the first trial! Others will follow where the greek state and the EU bosses might try to revenge those who raised their voices against them.
Before the protets against the EU summit in Greece we had announced that "...after a series of summits all around Europe, the EU bosses come to visit their partners in Greece and make decisions for us -without us. We announce that they will find us on their every step in our cities. We gonna be present wherever they go, and we gonna be by the side of the workers and the common people who resist in any possible way to the brutal capitalist globalisation... we will be there to protest our opposition to the modern conditions of slavery..." and now we say it once more that we will not leave alone any of the people who were arrested, abused and prosecuted because of their social struggle against the bosses.
So, International days of Action are being called from the 8th until the13th of January 2005
We encourage other groups and individuals to organise solidarity demos (no matter how big or small!) for the week leading up to the trials, and to report on your actions and email us at ita_gr@yahoo.co.uk or info@resistance2003.gr ...
