G8 Protest Ban Exclusion Zone Re-imposed

01-06-2007 14:42

The highest court in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has overruled the previous court decision and decided that a general demonstration ban on June 7th did not violate the constitutional rights of protesters.

A general injunction over a 40 square kilometre area had been designated by police as a demonstration-free zone due to a "state of emergency". It went well beyond the original 200m exclusion zone around the fence stretching to 6km in places.

As a result of this the so-called Star March on June 7th , which was intending to go all the way to the Kempinski hotel, will now be confined to the B105 road.

demo 06.02 rostock: join the "umsganze" block. [en]

01-06-2007 10:23

Under the slogan of „Growth and Responsibility“, Germany plays host, from June 6th to 8th, to the group of 8 (the 7 most powerful industrial nations plus Russia) in the small seaside resort of Heiligendamm.
The G8 are not the “Spider in the Net”, or the “Control Room” of “Rapacious Capitalism”. It has to be understood as a form in which capitalist society reflects itself in a political dimension.

Attac turns against the unjust sides of globalization and develops econmic concepts.. We need the contagious power of the ideas of freedom, justice and equality. Another WTC7 whitewash has been published in NYTimes

31-05-2007 12:35

A response to yesterday's WTC7 hit piece in the NY Times (see 'A Notion From 9/11 Is Kept Alive' by Jim Dwyer). Why do we bother? Because someone has to keep the concepts of truth and global justice alive as we descend into Rockefeller's 'dream' of a one-world feudal state, that's why!

Stop the show! Everyday resistance instead of anti-G8-Spectacle

31-05-2007 06:17

It is always similar: The rulers in politics and economy meet and protests as for example against the G8-summit in Heiligendamm react to it. Thousands of humans come together to have actions, demonstrations, discussions, etc. and after the end of this - for state and capital calculable - spectacle they all drive home and function again at home (part of the spectacle are the summits as well as the protests against it): everywhere, where capitalism reproduces itself daily, where we all reproduce it daily, by our wage labour, by our doing: whether in the factory, in the office, in the sweat shop, in the agency, in the school or university. The protests against the G8-summit and the demo tourism do not have anything to do with concrete daily resistance, where we work and live.

Activists hijack phone boxes across London to raise their voice against poverty

29-05-2007 17:05

Phone message to Tony Blair
Oxfam, Cafod, Save the Children and over 90 other UK NGOs commandeered phoneboxes on the South Bank and Camden this weekend to give people the chance to let off steam. Members of the public went into the specially fitted out phone boxes to shout against poverty and let the G8 leaders know that they must act now on debt cancellation, aid, healthcare, sanitation, education and climate change.

The stunt is part of The World Can’t Wait – Your Voice Against Poverty Campaign, which will be followed by a huge rally in Westminster on Saturday 2nd June, prior to the G8 Summit which starts in Germany on 6th June.
