Oxford World Development Movement (WDM) will be staging the "G8 Olympics" in Oxford City Centre on Tuesday 18th July at 1pm to draw attention to the fact that the promises made at last year's G8 Summit by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have not been kept. Oxford WDM members dressed as Bob Geldof and Bono will be judging others dressed as Blair and Brown in a triathlon of debt, aid and trade.

A year on from the Gleneagles G8 summit, at which Tony Blair promised to put trade justice and climate change at the top of the agenda, campaigners in Swindon joined a drumming petition to ensure that their trade justice message was still ringing in the ears of decision makers. Attached are some photos, a 7-minute film, and audio of the two speakers for anyone who lacks the bandwidth to download the film.

As dusk falls, I try to remember…where exactly was I one year ago, as dusk fell?
Was I, as a legal volunteer from Bristol, monitoring protests against the G8 in Gleneagles (Scotland), still on duty outside the Stirling eco-camp attempting to monitor the police’s abuse of their powers? Or had I been replaced for the night, and made it back to our Edinburgh base (and pub)? It’s all such a blur now, yet only a year ago…

Passengers reading the Metro on Edinburgh's buses this week got a real shock - the paper contained something worth reading in. A leaflet entitled "The Carnival is not over" mysteriously appeared in over a thousand copies of the Metro "newspaper" which is distributed free on Lothian Region buses.

Issued on the anniversary of the anti G8 Carnival for Full Enjoyment, the leaflet encouraged citizens to resist injustice : "Together we have the power to disrupt the daily grind of the institutions that plunge us into overwork, poverty and debt."
