Police brutality at Bristol squat eviction (liveleak video)

02-04-2012 23:12

more like a hostage situation
From liveleak.com: 'They unlawfully entered, partied all night, were told to leave prior by other police. Resulted in some scuffles, a little pavement-face action and a girl dragged away in a headlock.
Many UK wannabe 'freeman' types were going nuts on youtube, while forgetting the basic concept of unlawful entry and loss.'

'The H&B Workfare Deal, Employ Three, Get One Free'

02-04-2012 22:55

this is a bristol indymedia story
featured image

Saturday saw nearly 40 anti-workfare activist from Bristol Solidarity Federation, Bristol & District Anti Cuts Alliance, Youth Fight for Jobs, Bristol Anarchist Federation, The IWW, Right to Work and others take the fight-back against workfare to the streets of Bristol.

A noisy and vocal crowd visited many of the poverty-pimps working with the government of rob people of their time and chances to find work. If workfare was about getting people jobs, the government might have paid heed to its own research which states: “There is little evidence that workfare increases the likelihood of finding work. It can even reduce employment chances by limiting the time available for job search and by failing to provide the skills and experience valued by employers.”

Escorted by the police throughout, the group headed straight for a Holland and Barrett's in the swanky Cabot Circus. Bemused shoppers were treated to punk classics from the wheeley-bin sound-system and gladly accepted a variety of literature outlining the perils of Workfare. Then the march headed-off to picket more of the cities Workfare providers. Primark, McDonalds, Greggs, Wilkinson's and another Holland and Barrett were targeted.

Across the UK there were over 20 actions targeting workfare. These were held as a response to the "National Day of Action called by the Solidarity Federation. There seems that will be part of an ongoing campaign. The actions tied in with the international days of action against austerity called by the International Workers Association that included the general strike in Spain on March 29th, and the M31 European Day of Action Against Capitalism.

Maria Voisin - Avon's puppet coroner?

02-04-2012 20:55

Few people know about or understand the reasons behind the sacking, in February 2011, of Avon Coroner Paul Forrest who was initially suspended in August 2008. The reason for the lack of public knowledge about his tortuous sacking process is that, at the behest of the Head of Legal Services and electoral returning officer at Bristol City Council Stephen McNamara, gagging clauses were included in the severence agreement with Forrest and other staff sacked from their jobs in the Avon Coroners' Office in Flax Bourton.

A lively & very noisy demo at the bristol drone conference in Bristol ended with six arrests. Conference attenders had to do their dirty business accompanied by a considerable din made by about 80 people for around 3 hours or so . Some delegates unable to cope with the noise decided to leave the conference early, only to be pursued around town with people letting them know just what they thought of them, until they had to be rescued by the police. Ah diddums.
