Trade unionists and others demonstrated outside the Council House from 5.30pm. I understand there were also protests by the PCS (the civil service union) at lunchtime.

What's the Venus Project?
The Venus Project presents a bold, new direction for humanity that entails nothing less than the total redesign of our culture. There are many people today who are concerned with the serious problems that face our modern society: unemployment, violent crime, replacement of humans by technology, over-population and a decline in the Earth's ecosystems.
The Venus Project is dedicated to confronting all of these problems by actively engaging in the research, development, and application of workable solutions. Through the use of innovative approaches to social awareness, educational incentives, and the consistent application of the best that science and technology can offer directly to the social system, The Venus Project offers a comprehensive plan for social reclamation in which human beings, technology, and nature will be able to coexist in a long-term, sustainable state of dynamic equilibrium.

Zero Carbon Bristol Conference at The Watershed
23-06-2010 13:22
Can we create enough food and green energy and reverse emissions and mitigate climate change? Can our cities and countryside restore balance and help each other as well as others?Following a report by the Centre of Alternative Technologies extolling the possibilities of a Zero Carbon Britain, the Royal Agricultural College and Bristol’s Green Capital Initiative have joined forces to offer a day long program of seminars and networking opportunities for the region’s experts and enthusiasts.
Located at The Watershed on Bristol’s beautiful harbourside on the 29th June 2010 Zero Carbon Bristol looks at topics including green leadership, reducing emissions, renewable energy, green food and agroforestry.
Speakers include eco-pioneer Alistair Sawday, Peter Harper from the Centre of Alternative Technology, Dr Richard Baines from the Royal Agricultural College and Prof. Herbie Girdet, co-founder of the World Future Council – and more.
Zero Carbon Bristol builds on Bristol's Peak Oil Report, and the ambitious goals announced by Bristol City Council to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2020, aspirations to produce the City's energy renewably and to increase tree cover in the region. The conference is to take things a step further - to see if Zero Carbon is possible, desirable, and if so what do we need to do? It's a chance to learn, to discuss, perchance to plan.
