Death & Devil

10-03-2012 12:01

This is a message to everybody and nobody from no one in particular. I am writing because you need to know that I have no voice, no face and no identity. I only have a presence. But this includes all the world, even these who continue to abuse it. My past has been stolen from me, since I was looking at the future without an experience of abuse. Now history itself is revisionist because everything in the present is a lie in the flow of time. Any truth has become a target for evil, and the closest thing to evil on Earth, the regime, has attacked the closest thing to truth here, the human yearning. This means you because only you can abolish the regime, clear its legacies and rehabilitate the targeted. You have to decide upon what is to be done and how this can be successfully prevented in the future. Just like there already is a first amendment to the categorical imperative, you can add another one.

Nyagah wa Kamau / Stephen Nyash, RIP

09-03-2012 20:55

"Sissy ni watumishi wa community / We are servants of the community"

Kenya Indymedia has reported that on Tuesday, February 21, radio journalist and organizer Stephen Nyash was shot dead in the Korogocho ghetto of Nairobi, where he had lived and worked for most of his life. Korogocho is the third largest slum in the world [1]. At writing, the motive for his murder is not clear.

Nyash was one of the founders of KOCH FM [2], a close partner of Kenya Indymedia. He was also a leader in "Koch Hope" and "Ghetto Films," which worked to empower the slumdwellers of Korogocho. He brought this wealth of experience to the fourth IMC-Africa Convergence in Senegal last March as a representative of Kenya Indymedia. He was also integral in organizing a "Conference of People" held in Korogocho to coincide with the Conference of Parties (COP-17) gathering on climate change. Fellow organizer John Bwakali writes, "From the moment that he knew about Kenya Indymedia, Nyash became not just an active participant but fellow leader of the movement… Upon return [from Senegal], he immersed himself into the vision and work of Kenya Indymedia." Read John's Full Reflection HERE [3] and his audio interview with Nyash [4] on the fight against State injustices.

100 TSG illegally evict social centre

09-03-2012 16:55

One of London's largest and most active social centres was evicted Friday morning by around 100 TSG units. According to reports, occupants were rudely awakened by an unruly mob of riot police breaking the inner door to their sleeping area. As no legal process had been initiated, an old warrant for the building was used as a pretext for the eviction. Occupants were in shock with the latest move by the authorities which allegedly defies nearly all the basic rights for every person to justice, as well as contravening Section 6 of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

In addition most of them were denied access to their possessions as the door was locked shut by bailiffs and they were left outside in the cold to contemplate the immediate dashing of their dreams.

The social centre, which held a free vegan dinner and bicycle workshop every week was building up to a more productive spring when they were attacked.

One squatter, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We are shocked how far the authorities go to undermine our liberty. This sort of unprovoked violence is nothing short of fascism."

Some experts suggest authorities rash assault on civil rights in the last year is a bid to gentrify parts of London ahead of the Olympics.

Reports suggest that over 15,000 police officers will be stationed in the capital during the 25bn pound event, with critics saying all this money will be swallowed by multinationals just as the poor are being cut of even their most basic needs.

Authorities will have power to enter and evict any building they want during this period, powers normally handed out only in wartime.

Darknet - Alternatives for a free inernet away from Facebook

09-03-2012 13:50

Social networking sites such as Facebook pose an inherent risk to activists, hackers, campaigners, etc. due to the fact that Facebook demands and stores large quantities of your own personal data which is freely available to the government, the police and anyone else who might have an interest in tracking activists online.

With Facebook's clamp down on fake profiles, their demands for phone numbers during registration, and so on, the time has come for activists to look further afield and use more clandestine means of communication for their publishing and planning activities.
