The Harmony cafe at the PI will be open for two hours each Saturday morning. You care welcome to drop in for a cup of something, or discover the topic of the day. Each week we will attempt to give some insight into various topics and community interests. Also walks around the city can be organised. Starts this Saturday, and then from the 20th Nov.

Interested in challenging orthodox, mainstream academia? A new series of workshops is starting this weekend: the Alternative Academics. The idea is to discuss about alternative topics usually excluded from mainstream academia, in an alternative format as well (no speaker meeting where the speaker is on a platform and tells you what to think). I won't say more about it; just come and take part in it!

Protest against civil service cuts for staff and service provision

The Public and Commercial Union has organised a rally on Friday outside Sheffield Town Hall 12:30-13:30 to highlight the decimation of public services being proposed by the Government and all other mainstream political parties and to encourage members of the Union to vote yes to a Civil Service wide 1 day strike on November 5th.

Gay rights groups have called a day of protest in Kent, following the County Council's continued support of what has been dubbed the 'Son of Section 28'. The protest day, scheduled for Saturday 13th November, a year after the government repealed Section 28 in national law. Immediately after this landmark decision, however, Kent County Council chose to implement similar policies that prohibit the "promotion of homosexuality".
