BBC protests - London and Manchester - August 14th

Today the BBC made it official -- they have been corrupted by Microsoft.

With today's launch of the iPlayer, the BBC Trust has failed in its most basic of duties and handed over to Microsoft sole control of the on-line distribution of BBC programming. From today, you will need to own a Microsoft operating system to view BBC programming on the web.

Hand-held video cameras and now mobile telephones have revolutionised the instantaneous documentation of news events and happenings on the street. To a thus far unprecedented degree they have given power back to the people to record and report events in crisis situations. But this is not new - only the technology has changed.

During the 60s, a period in which America was a nation at war – not least with itself - underground spokesman Jonas Mekas called for a new movement of activist documentary filmmaking with access to “almost weightless, almost invisible” 8mm and 16mm cameras. A new style of “street journalism” evolved reporting on America’s increasingly polarised and radicalised society.

Successful first test ride for cycling cinema

And we're off...
On the night of Tuesday the 24th of July, the Magnificent Revolutionary Cycling Cinema had it first test run. Around twenty five pedalistos and well-wishers gathered at the shed behind the Portland Arms in Cambridge and watched a film about the Naked Bike Ride, generating the electricity required to run the sound and projection system by their own pedal power.

An estimated 5000 plus people visited The 10th Sharrow Festival, for the organisers and helpers it all began at 8am in the morning. Following weeks of rain, plus
floods (see:  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/sheffield/2007/07/374802.htm)l there was some concern about the soaked ground of Mount Pleasant Park, this Saturday turned out to be a wonderful day of warm sunshine.
