The §278a Case Against Austrian Animal Rights Activists Enters the Next Round

February 1, 2010: barely four weeks before the opening trial date in the §278a case, three more activists were charged with the same paragraph (278a) and are expected to stand with the rest of the defendants. The 13 defendants are accused of having formed a Criminal Organisation trying to force companies to get out of the fur trade. Ten of the defendants were previously held in pre-trial detention after a country-wide raid in Austria on May 21, 2008. The legal defence costs could reach over €500,000.

The UKCMRI have been dubbed by the mainstream media as building a "28 Days Later Lab" after amjor safety alert was issued from Camden. Photos from the film appeared on the front page to warn residents of the danger posed by the level 3+ Bio Chemical Laboratory. At a public formal meeting to "consult us" we were lied to by the UKCMRI who claimed to send letters they did not sent out.

Tonight's "last chance" formal public meeting & "consultation" at St Mary & St Pancras Primary School hosted by the UKCMRI saw Camden fuming & asking the UKCMRI not to patronise residents. Bizarrely a photo of Peter Pan was displayed while the speakers on stage studiously ignored "difficult" questions & residents. Safety, animal rights and community questions were dismissed & people ignored.

The Animal Protection Party Germany created in 1998 [beginnings 1993] was the first ever Animal Protection Party created out of concern for animals. Dr Gisell Bulla stood in Federal Elections in Germany 1998. The German Animal Protection Party have no links to the UK Animal Protection Party created in late 2006. The Animals Count Party in Holland were created in 2004 when Jasmin De Boo stood.

Demo at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

To mark the opening of the new season at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm on Saturday 6th February, activists from Bristol Animal Rights Collective (BARC) launched their new campaign against the zoo. A successful demonstration was held outside the zoo to remind the public of the findings of the recent undercover investigation.

Demonstration Against Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

The following was revealed in an undercover investigation of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm in 2009:
• Inadequate vet care
• Killing of excess animals over the winter months
• Display of young tiger cub when he was very unwell, shortly before his death
• Illegal disposal of a tiger carcus
• Borrowing animals from the Great British Circus, one of the few circuses still to use animals
• Inadequate access to tranquiliser, in the event that a large cat escapes
The trade body, BIAZA has withdrawn the zoo's membership after the zoo brought the organsiation into disrepute by withholding information about the origin of their tigers, and despite this, they took in some new lion cubs in February 2010.

Activists sent details of child & threatening letters from government/MI5/DWP

An activist with a child was sent strange letters from the Department of Work & Pensions detailing his child benefit & details of his parents pension. He was then telephoned with the warning "We know everything about you & if we want we can get your parents pension money interfered with at any time". The activist said the person phoning was a woman & that she had " an Australian or New Zealand accent. What's scary is that he did not any time given the DWP his mobile phone number.
