At 7a.m. on the 22nd of December, Bill Rodgers, a long-time community activist arrested as part of a nationwide crackdown on radical activists in the US was found dead in his cell. The authorities have called it a suicide.

Oxford gets taste of animal rights fury again as builders restart work on lab

Just under a week ago Oxford University decided it would restart work on its controversial new animal laboratory on South Parks Road. Since then protests from animal rights activists have been on the increase and spilled out into the city proper with a vigorous demonstration in the centre on Tuesday evening. Campaigners however remain unrepentant and unbowed, repeating their declarations that the lab would never been completed.

Oxford Lab - work resumes on animal lab

Work resumed on the Oxford lab on South Parks Rd this morning. Police were present as lorries entered the site.

Weekly site demo tomorrow (Thurs) from 1pm. Anyone wanting to go from London can take the megabus from Victoria, and various places in West London. Standby price is about £10 return, but you can go for as little as £2 if you book online in advance, www.megabus.com Email back for further details.

Anti-hunting activists claim that on Saturday 19 November 2005, the Ropley based Hampshire Hunt were chasing a fox in breach of the Hunting Act which was supposed to outlaw such activities. The activists were attacked by terriermen and supporters of the hunt.
