Israel/Lebanon oil spill spreads to Syrian coast:

Oil leaking from a bombed power station in Lebanon has reached the coastline of neighbouring Syria and is spreading north, the Kenya-based United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) says. Lebanon's Environment Ministry has called it the worst environmental disaster to hit the Arab state. The spill has already polluted over 80 kilometres of Lebanon's coastline...

Huntsman guilty

A Somerset man has become the first person convicted for breaking the ban on fox hunting with hounds.
Tony Wright, 52, denied breaching the Hunting Act, when he led the Exmoor Foxhounds on 29 April last year.

But he was fined £500 at Barnstaple Magistrates' Court in a case brought by the League Against Cruel Sports.

He was the first fox huntsman to be summoned to court for defying the law which came into force last year in England and Wales.

In a scene that could have come from George Orwell’s classic book 1984, hundreds of police officers flooded the streets of Oxford on 22nd July. Side Streets were lined with police vans, packed with police officers. Dozens of officers on bikes patrolled the streets, whilst dozens more stood on every street corner. Wherever you looked, yellow tunic officers were in abundance. A dozen police horses were forced to march through the searing heat of Oxford City centre as Thames Valley Police prowled the streets of this once picturesque city.

Many activists get arrested cutting through military fences and so get the extra charge of 'malicious mischief'. Using a ladder to climb fences is impracticable as you tend to get intercepted and charged for approaching a base with a ladder. You can buy 'telescopic-ladders' but they are very expensive so here is the cheapo solution.
