Imperial Sunset? - Threats to US Hegemony

04-04-2007 14:07 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

The Iraq and Lebanon wars have shown up the limits of the latest in military technology. Relatively small militias, armed with rudimentary weapons, fought the U.S. and Israeli armies to a standstill; one withdrew hastily, the other doesn't even know how to retreat or even avoid slow attrition. This imposes severe limits on U.S. capabilities and projects for seeking military solutions to political problems. If the U.S. repeats in Iran the folly it committed in Iraq, the myth of its military prowess shall be in full ruin.

On the other side of the globe are the mass movements of Latin America. They are neither "terrorists", nor "rogue states"; hence not even fictitious targets for invasions. Not even a spectre of communism. Just millions of the poor on the march for equality, justice, and redistribution of wealth. Not a cauldron of religious millenarianism, sectarian strife and ethnic divisions, as in so much of the Muslim world. But a direct revolt against neoliberalism and imperialism as such.

New World Order

22-03-2007 05:07 | Analysis | Globalisation | Other Press | World

A recent article brought home the shocking truth of today’s new world order by contrasting the social outrage expressed against Richard Nixon for his minor offence of a break and enter (Watergate) with today's social complacency in the face of half-a-million civilian dead in Iraq. The office of president of the USA has become an experimental position where corporate placed buffoons are allowed to reign ruin on the world. The “bouquet of flowers, mission accomplished, WMD, give war a chance”, administration has got it wrong from the start yet ‘bouquet’ Wolfowitz has been promoted to the president of the World Bank, where he continues to bungle and lose to other interests (China). The incompetent clown, Bush, remains president and the criminals who benefit remain behind the scenes profiting on the misery of others!

The Politics of Apathy: an Australian story

17-03-2007 12:41 | Analysis | Globalisation | Other Press | World

While America leads the world in insularism and denial, Australia is the world leader in complacency and apathy. No cultural equivalent for the Oz expression, “she’ll be right, mate”, exists anywhere – notwithstanding the variation of “who gives a shit?” Today, non-involvement is proving to be a very costly cultural habit. America has become the world’s most hated nation and will soon attract very real consequences for its actions, one of which is the acquisition of Australia as a colonial trophy. Australia remains an international laughing stock under the servile leadership of lackey prime minister, John Howard; Aussies are experiencing their eleventh year under the rule of the most slavish, gutless, lying, duplicitous, cringing, government on record. No other leader in world history has displayed the servility and cowardice of John Howard. When America says jump, the despicable little coward, Howard, says how high, boss!

Introducing A Game As Old As Empire

13-03-2007 21:26 | Analysis | Globalisation | World

After the Economic Hitmen retire from their cushy jobs of raping nations under "legal cover", they write confessionals as victims of conscience. Should we have let go Adolph Eichmann too had he written a confessional? The latter was the harbinger of misery to millions of peoples for a short span of a few years with just the stroke of a pen, and we tried him in Jerusalem. Whereas the former are the harbingers of the continued entrapment of entire nations in inextricable systems of poverty and misery for generations and they walk free in suits and ties, sometimes even heading prestigious economic institutions. Should we applaud the former EHM and absolve them of their own past monumental crimes just because they are revealing it all now post faits accomplis and laughing their way to the bank? Or should we use this information in informing our own Moral Activism to prevent future fait accompli? Should we demand from them that they deposit all the proceeds of their confessional writings in trust for the benefit of the nations they raped? Should we do something about the empire's "legal covers" and condemn them unequivocally as deliberate enablers of multi-color-collared crimes against humanity by the emperors? The choice of Moral-Activism is ours! To exercise this choice efficaciously however, we must be addressing the issues at the right levels of abstraction! The highest order bits are in the intellectual space!

Bush, ‘political cadaver’ -- It’s all but (over)

11-03-2007 12:14 | Analysis | Globalisation | Other Press | World

There is something politically odd about Bush’s tour of various Latin American countries. South American nations were ‘lost’ to the U.S. some time ago – the price paid for America’s fixation in the Middle East. Bush is loathed internationally but is particularly despised in Latin America. The Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez accurately called Bush a “political cadaver” and led 20,000 Argentinian supporters in the chant, “gringo go home”, during his counter-tour of the region.

"Hitler no longer to be an honorary citizen of Bad Doberan"

10-03-2007 18:36 | G8 Germany 2007 | Anti-racism | Globalisation | Migration | World

Shut Down G8!
Gipfelsoli Infogroup: Right-wing globalization critique must be rejected

Formally, Adolf Hitler is still an honorary citizen of Bad Doberan. He was elevated to this status by town officials in 1932.. Prior to the NSDAP coming to power here, Bad Doberan had been the first municipality to grant Hitler this title.

Heiligendamm, where this year's G8 summit will be convened, belongs to the administrative district of Bad Doberan. The two towns are connected by the Lindenallee (Lime Tree Avenue), which Hitler once praised as "the most beautiful of Germany". The Dammchaussee ('Dam Road'), the road leading into the Lindenallee, was subsequently renamed 'Adolf-Hitler-Strasse' (Adolf Hitler Street).
