Barack Obama: The Empire’s New Clothes

15-11-2008 14:36 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

Paul Krugman in the New York Times (a left-liberal Obama critic during the primary campaign) says there's "something wrong with you" if you weren't "teary-eyed" about Obama's election. Yes, numerous other radicals and I need to be put under psychiatric care because we didn't cry over the militantly bourgeois and openly imperialist Obama's presidential selection.

WTO Chief Says Free Trade Plays Small Role in Job Losses: A Critical View

13-11-2008 02:50 | Analysis | Globalisation | Migration | World

Pascal Lamy
Pascal Lamy, head of the World Trade Organization, argues that free trade in a regulated environment drives economic growth worldwide. Speaking at Stanford University, he dismissed claims that free trade is responsible for job losses. Yet in every case where trade barriers have been dropped between structurally dissimilar economies, free trade has introduced profound socio-economic distortions, income inequality, and job displacement.

The Triangle Of Peace Foundation: Redefining Sinister, Shitting On Us All

10-11-2008 14:19 | Globalisation | Repression | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

What can you say about an advert that fills an entire page of a broadsheet newspaper, containing a title (”The Triangle Of Peace Foundation”), a heavy duty strapline (”The birth of Philanthropical Capitalism, a new global responsibility.”), an address in New York (”Triangle of Peace, 420 Lexington Ave, Suite 518, New York, NY 10170 USA”) and a section of some kind of stylised monolith, all tastefully decked out in black and white?

Solutions to economic & climate chaos: politics of self-interest or society?

09-11-2008 14:05 | Climate Chaos | Globalisation | Workers' Movements | World

Many economies and livelihoods are dependent on discretionary spending. It's quite clear that following years of increases in employment and business creation, that there looks set to be an increase in unemployment and business failures, which will have an enormous impact on workers. What lessons can we learn from socialism, unity and positive and constructive environmental action in both dealing with the downturn and helping the climate and the proletariat alike?

Realities after the dollar and before the Revolution

08-11-2008 22:55 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Zapatista | World

The following article from Le Monde Diplo (not available on-line without subscription) is useful. These extracts jumped out at me:

"Only the combination of acknowledged economic power and an attractive, original political vision could overthrow the prevailing system or allow all its participants to be treated as equals" and "we are still a long way from a united front with the capacity to impose new international rules or dethrone the dollar and its institutional props, the IMF and the World Bank."

For "we are still a long way off" I would like to suggest we must read "revolution"; meaning sustained & decentralised simultaneous organisation on a national/transnational scale.

Why I Moved From Seattle Washington

The Destroyed Reputation of The United States Federal Government (Part Two)

I lived in Seattle Washington for 15 years. I worked on computer automated design and drafting for twenty years. My life "fell apart" (yes; - there was mushrooms, a woman, and a brother involved - to add some drama for you!) . I ended up living in my truck and couch surfing with friends for about ten months. Then I got a low rent transitional housing apartment in downtown Seattle - at the Glenn Hotel.

The Destroyed Reputation of The United States Federal Government

04-11-2008 21:48 | Culture | Globalisation | Repression | World

The United States Federal Government started destroying it’s reputation decades ago. Property confiscation and forced development because of taxes is "the norm" in the United States. It does not matter how long the property has been owned or who owns it, if you do not pay the government for it’s "new" taxable value, you will have it confiscated. I have watched as many people who have lived on their property for decades and even generations, have it stolen by the United States Federal Government.

Charges of Rape and Murder Prompt Disappearance of Entire Country from Corporate Website

SAN FRANCISCO — Chevron [trading as Texaco in the UK] has quietly removed from its website any reference to its operations in Burma [Myanmar], a country where the oil giant has been implicated in allegations of rape and murder connected to a lucrative pipeline project that generates up to $1 billion annually for the country's brutal military regime, the Amazon Defense Coalition said today.

Sabotage Is Not An Option, It Is A Necessity

27-10-2008 17:55 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Globalisation | South Coast | World

We have been led to believe that the act of sabotage, all acts of sabotage, are inherently bad. This is because sabotage is a potential threat to everything civilization holds dear: it is perhaps the only thing that could stop the environmental crisis.
