Planning the deaths of innocent People

21-08-2004 19:45 | Anti-racism | Culture | Globalisation | World

Until recently, as we have all discovered new things about our character
and hearts, I really didn't think that my community within
Victoria, BC was very important, to the world, except to me B.U.T. I am
seeing that we have become the focus of these racist and amerikkkan
paranoic assaults like the rest of the dissidents in larger more well
known cities. I fear that I might fail my community of New Palestine/The

Revolution is Bloody

It is true we shouldn't be afraid of martyrdom, however, we should not
be selecting and setting each other up for that position nor should we
be afraid to hold up the images of our martyrs and shout out their names
and certainly continue the fight and struggle. What is the trap of the
west? to think, as Gil Scott Heron observed, that the Calvary always
comes to save the day and that the hero lives to see the glory of that
day. We have forgotten that it is about the future/the Culture/Sankofa
not "the crazy house called ameriKKKAnada" and profits. So we are going
to get martyrs.

A spontaneous demonstration in solidarity with the people of Venezuela took place in Edinburgh, Sunday, 15th of august, co-inciding with the simultaneous referendum against Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, and initiator of massive social reforms benefiting the poor. The Edinburgh Fringe festival also co-incided with the demonstration, lending a high profile of publicity to the cause of the demonstration, particular when the demonstration with comedian Mark Thomas accidently met the Edinburgh Samba School, the party rocked.

Implementing the Nicaragua Plan in Venezuela

The International Republican Institute:
Implementing the Nicaragua Plan in Venezuela

International Republican Institute (“IRI”): A U.S. based non-governmental entity founded upon suggestion by former President Ronald Reagan, the IRI is a major recipient of NED funds for various projects around the world. In March 2002, just one month before the April 2002 coup d’etat, IRI received an impressive $300,000 grant from the NED for “Strengthening Political Parties” in Venezuela. IRI received an additional $116,000 in February 2003, at the culmination of the 64-day opposition imposed lockout that devastated the Venezuelan economy. One of the main political parties participating in both the coup and the lockout, Primero Justicia, is a major benefactor of IRI funds. IRI’s massive financing for its Venezuelan projects has almost exclusively been funneled into developing and strengthening political parties to oppose the Chávez Administration. IRI also maintains close contact with the U.S. Embassy, which has also been a backer of the opposition’s undemocratic tactics.

Chavez Supporters Gather in Venezuela's Capital for Largest Pro-Chavez Rally

Crowd estimates ranged from 100,000 (opposition) to one million (pro-Chavez)

Supporters of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez filled Caracas’ largest public venue yesterday, packing the Avenida Bolívar for well over a mile and overflowing onto side streets all over the downtown. Clad in red—the colour that has come to represent chavismo in Venezuela—supporters bore t-shirts, hats, berets, placards, puppets, and inventive home-made signs all uniformly declaring “No!” to the recall on Chávez’ mandate scheduled for next Sunday, August 15th.

rightwing attacks on venezuala

10-08-2004 11:29 | Venezuela | Free Spaces | Globalisation | Social Struggles | London | World

While the world's attention has been focused on the middle east, the inavision and occupation of Iraq and the ongoing conflict over Palestine, few people have noticed the shake up occuring in South America. Everyone knows that the latinamerican countries are generally political unstable and characterised by military rule. Many people are aware that the US has a long history of intervention, installing and supporting complient dictators or replacing those that don't tow the US line. But there has been a shift, the forth largest supplier of oil to the US has excaped the cycle and liberated themselves from the yoke of the elite. However, the odds are stacked against them. Even having survived a coup and a bosses lock out in the last couple of years, and despite every indication that the people will win the recall referendum of their democratically elected president Hugo Chavez, there may be dark clouds on the horizon. Large arms caches have been intercepted entering the country. Large amounts of explosives have gone missing from military stocks and opposition are talking openly of violence and assasination.

Below is an article from a right wing american publication which gives some idea of the propaganda being released to path the way for US intervention...

Unrest in Venezuela likely

07-08-2004 11:45 | Venezuela | Analysis | Globalisation | Social Struggles | London | World

The president, Hugo Chavez, will face a revocatory referendum on his tenure on August 15th. The date was announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE) on June 8th, after it ruled that a campaign by the opposition to garner signatures from 20% of the electorate in support of a petition demanding a referendum had been successful. The result of the referendum is uncertain, as are its implications for the Chavez regime. Whatever the outcome, there is a high probability that the losing side will challenge it, either in the courts??whose neutrality is disputed by both government and opposition??or on the streets. Political instability and a policy environment subservient to the government's priority of self-preservation therefore appear likely to persist for some time...
