The man who was attacked is, among other activities, involved in “The Other Campaign”, initiated by the Zapatistas. The Fray Bartholomew Centre write:

The campaign will touch every state in Mexico and aspires to form a wide-ranging non-electoral and anti-capitalist alliance that can be a powerful enough of a force to implement a new constitution for Mexico.
The "Other Campaign" means trying to establish a political counterweight to the ruling class in Mexico - and the world by forming an anarchist network of groups and individuals from below, worldwide...
