D Day 60th anniversary commemoration ceremonies and war cemeteries, Normandy

Pix show D Day 60th anniversary commemorations in Trouarn and Honfleur, a couple of small towns in Normandy, France. They feature British, Canadian, Belgian and French resistance veterans at the ceremonies and receiving commemorative medals from local mayors and council officials.
There are also some pix of the Commonwealth war cemeteries at Banneville where the bodies of over 2.500 of the soldiers who were killed in the subsequent battle for Normandy are buried and a first world war cemetery at Mont Huon in which over 3.000 soldiers are buried. Pix were taken on the 6th and 7th June 2004.

autonomous social centre in Newcastle

An autonomous social centre and info-shop is long overdue in the North East.
Now we've got the opportunity to do one, and we hope to open it up within a few months.
It'll be in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, it'll be proper cush, and it needs you to get involved!
It'll have a cafe, a film club, political art space, a newcastle indymedia, a radical book shop and anything else you wanna put your energy into. Feck me it'll be good!!

Here there are some photos of Saturday's Legalise Cannabis Festival in London, and the Indymedia-UK stall. After the annual march from Kennington Park to Brixton, a huge crowd gathered in Brockwell Park to party all day to several sound systems and a live stage ... where different musical styles mixed well with the very particular smells of the day :-)

Join us on Sat 12th June to map out possible projects and strategies around the european social forum planned for October this year... from supporting existing projects like the NOMAD DIY open source translation infrastructure, to supporting autonomous spaces and using wi-fi to link spaces inside the ESF, outside the ESF and on the streets, radio and video streaming, alternative media centres and reporting, experimental media labs etc etc

Some initiatives are underway already, others are yet to be imagined...
