Massive Trade Justice Demo in London Attracts 25,000 Protestors

wake up to trade justice
An all night 'trade justice' vigil complete with workshops, cinema, music and comedy was staged around Whitehall in London through the night of 15th April - culminating in a mass march past Downing Street at around 7am on Saturday 16th April.

Organisers said up to 25,000 people attended the events throughout the night, which were part of the build up towards the G8 Summit in Scotland in July.

Make poverty history / Drop the debt
As the millenium clock in the centre of Swindon struck noon on Saturday, people dressed in white surrounded it to form a white ring, like one of those wristbands in aid of the Make Poverty History campaign. They were silent for a minute, with the exception of some percussion instrument which marked an avoidable death due to poverty every three seconds. At the end of the minute, a whistle blew and they all shouted "Make Poverty History". A long banner was unrolled around the outside of the group, reading "Poverty kills 30,000 people every day. 'Click' there's another one. 1.3 billion people live on less than 53p a day. MAKE POVERTY HISTORY".

April 6th marks the first official trial day of the Diaz raid and the subsequent torture and abuse at the Bolzaneto detention camp which occurred during the G8 summit, July 21/22nd 2001. It is very important that these proceedings have placed on trial a total of 75 police and five doctors, 47 at Bolzaneto and 28 police from Diaz.
