The Voices and the Violence in Auchterarder

When I began to write the day after the march in Gleneagles, it was the violence that griped my mind, that formed the words. I, unlike many of the people I spoke to on wednesday, had been drained by sight of it. I felt the moral force ebb away from our protest even as it happened, and it was my sincere wish to be somewhere else. But there are many other stories of that day, and I shall begin with them, because the worst effect of violence is that nothing else can be heard above it - no other voices find their way through. The issues are forgotten, even if the violence is short lived.

There have been several accounts of police preventing the filming of arrests. One videographer described it as having been 'widespread' during the G8 summit.
This film shows one such occasion, during the Carnival of Full Enjoyment in Edinburgh 04.07.05, where the IMC journalist concerned had even shown an international press card.

Bomb scare on bus, princess street

Earlier this afternoon, the main area that authorities could expect to be under a bomb threat perhaps was Waverly Station, with Kevlar-covered cops sitting in parked vans nearby. But then a suspect package was discovered on a #12 Bus leading west on Princess Street.

Alston points finger at 'anarchists'

Australia's High Commissioner in London Richard Alston believes bombs in the city are most likely the work of anti-globalisation 'anarchists' to coincide with the Group of Eight summit meeting in Scotland.
