Bushcrimes: Canada Should Bar or Prosecute says Lawyer

06-03-2009 08:19 | Globalisation | Iraq | Terror War | World

Lawyer Gail Davidson says that because Bush has been "credibly accused" of supporting torture in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Canada has a legal obligation to deny him entry. The law says foreign nationals who have committed war crimes or crimes against humanity, including torture, are "inadmissable" to Canada.

Environmental silver lining in economic crisis as energy demand plummets

03-03-2009 23:32 | Analysis | Energy Crisis | Globalisation | World

Global energy consumption dropped last year for the first time since 1983. It would be nice to think that was down to conservation efforts in attempt to mitigate against climate change but really our thanks should go to those who have bought the worlds economy to a stand still. It's interesting that the recession is currently doing more to curb green house gas emissions than any international climate change treaty has yet to manage.

Demand for energy falling as recession deepens

03-03-2009 12:24 | Analysis | Energy Crisis | Globalisation | World

Falling demand for energy and tighter margins has started to bite into the record gains made by energy companies over the last couple of years. The papers are today reporting that the Drax group shares are trading near a record low on the announcement of a small drop in profits between 2007 and 2008 while demand for electricity in the UK apparently fell 4.3% in the last quarter of 2008 and looks set to continue to fall as the recession deepens.

The Ontario Liberal McGuinty government, the Toronto Star newspaper, and Ontario Power Generation say nuclear power is CLEAN, GREEN AND SAFE. OPG says they are great at and very proud of their nuclear waste management. We say President Obama bring it on. Black Sea: Pentagon's Gateway to Three Continents and the Middle East

24-02-2009 23:12 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

map of Black Sea
The Black Sea is a vital geo-strategic area for the NATO in conjunction with its missions in Afghanistan, Darfur, Iraq and Kosovo.

With the inclusion of Romania and Bulgaria into the Alliance, the Black Sea has been incorporated into NATO's Article 5 (collective defense) operational zone. For two years now it has been repeatedly mentioned that Bulgarian, now joint Bulgarian-US, air bases may be used for attacks against Iran.

Class Solidarity with the General Strikes in French Oversea Territories

23-02-2009 20:46 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | World

After a 4 weeks long general strike in Guadeloupe which has also extended for 10 days in Martinique, the struggle of the workers of these two French West-Indian islands enters a difficult phase. The French government has just refused its support for the draft agreement on a wage increase which took shape between the trade unions and the employers organization.

“Let them eat cake!”

Free Markets. That’s what we are supposed to have: free markets. Free markets are where one person can exchange something of value with another person, all without any encumbrances by the government. We have never had free markets, nor will we ever. Worse, you wouldn’t want a truly free market.

G-20 Bank of England reclaim the streets Party

20-02-2009 23:36 | G20 London Summit | Climate Chaos | Globalisation | World

Capitalism has been heating up our world for years, melting the icecaps, burning up the rainforests, pushing the planet to tipping point. Now we're going to put the heat on them. At the London Summit , the G20 ministers are trying to get away with the biggest April Fools trick of all time. Their tax-dodging, bonus-guzzling, pension-pinching, unregulated free market world in meltdown, and those fools think we're going to bail them out. They've gotta be joking!

EU, NATO, US: 21st Century Alliance For Global Domination

20-02-2009 21:05 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

US Vice-President Joe Biden's speech at Munich Security Conference on February 7 was interpreted by a major German source as follows:

"The Americans will be scrupulously careful that the confrontation with Tehran does not develop into a one-on-one battle between the US and Iran. Biden's message is the following: Every NATO country and every member of the European Union is now involved, as of today. This is the price for the new trans-Atlantic openness and cooperation."

Is it G20 or G22?

20-02-2009 20:17 | G20 London Summit | Globalisation | Other Press | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

This is a real puzzle. Gordon Brown has just sent out his invite list for the G20, which, once Britain is included, runs to 22 countries. I think it is because Spain and the Netherlands have been invited this time. Even so, you have to wonder why it is still called the G20. So far the UK bumpf has promoted it as the “London Summit”, which may be a cover for the arithmetic issues. It would be easy enough to rename it the G22 — after all we there have been G22 and even G33 meetings in the past. But G22 does sound a bit like a fighter plane. And if you put G22 into google, it comes up with this rather scary looking gun. Probably best to leave things as they are. Long live the 22 members of the G20.

Barack Obama Administration Continues US Military Global Dominance

20-02-2009 10:12 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

The Barack Obama administration is continuing the neo-conservative agenda of US military domination of the world— albeit with perhaps a kinder-gentler face. While overt torture is now forbidden for the CIA and Pentagon, and symbolic gestures like the closing of the Guantanamo prison are in evidence, a unilateral military dominance policy, expanding military budget, and wars of occupation and aggression will likely continue unabated.

What's Really In Your Food

14-02-2009 12:51 | Campaign against Carmel-Agrexco | Analysis | Globalisation | Health | World

You may be grossed out, but insects and mold in our food are not new. The F.D.A. actually condones a certain percentage of “natural contaminants” in our food supply — meaning, among other things, bugs, mold, rodent hairs and maggots.
In its (falsely) reassuringly subtitled booklet “The Food Defect Action Levels: Levels of Natural or Unavoidable Defects in Foods That Present No Health Hazards for Humans,” the F.D.A.’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition establishes acceptable levels of such “defects” for a range of foods products, from allspice to peanut butter. . . .

Church of England: Dumping Caterpillar

14-02-2009 12:42 | Campaign against Carmel-Agrexco | Globalisation | Palestine | Repression | World

God whispered in the Church of England's ear and it dumped its shares in Caterpillar. This House of God had about £2.5m invested in a company that manufactures one of Israel's weapons of mass misery and destruction. After saying for years that they couldn't see anything unethical about it, Church bosses finally agreed with the rest of us that Caterpillar’s D-9 bulldozer, which is used in the Holy Land for the ugly purpose of demolishing Palestinian homes, uprooting olive groves and destroying civilian infrastructure, is more like a vicious weapon in Israel’s hands than a civil engineering tool.

I saw also, in my "around-the-world" trip that there are other strange things happening in some areas of free publication of other countries.
I propose that the responsible collectives do communicate more among themselves and that they get better organized with their communities, so we can better defend freedom and real democracy against the Nazis.
