I have a sign which reads:"Peace is a way of travelling. It is both a destination and a path." obtained from a NSW based Phoenician, read Lebanese Australian, a seafaring trader people, whose family has been here for generations, Franklin Scarf of Earth Repair Foundation with a logo gun transforming to a tree as here. It's the kind of message we need not more military madness:

Anti-Asbestos campaigners to 'go bananas' against Countryside Properties PLC

26-07-2006 01:19 | Ecology | Health | Social Struggles | World

Anti-Asbestos campaigners 'go bananas'...
Wednesday 26th July:

Anti-Asbestos campaigners are to ‘go bananas’ this evening outside Rochdale Town Hall from 5.45pm – 6.15pm.

Strict council rules ban placards and banners inside the Town Hall so the campaigners hope to get their point across with Fairtrade soft fruit.

They say the planning system is ‘bananas’ where local council taxpayers have to pay up to £80,000 for a report that heavily criticises the past actions of property speculators who wish to build a £100 million development with a planning fee of just £5500.

The protests included large "banner drops" in multiple cities, protests of coal and oil companies, and rallies at the U.S. embassy in London and the Washington, DC home of U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman. On Friday, protestors showed up at Bodman's home, demanding that the United States and the G8 abandon the focus on nuclear, coal, and on oil wars as "energy security." They chanted "No Coal, No Nukes, G-8 shut it down!" No arrests took place.

An action for clean and reliable drinking water at the Ministry for Internal Affairs in Tirana, Albania

13-07-2006 13:11 | Art and Activism Caravan 2006 | Ecology | Health | World

Today over 40 people gathered at the Ministry for Internal Affairs in the centre of Tirana, the capital of Albania. The issue is Tirana's drinking water, which is not clean, unreliable as it comes out of the tap only a few hours a day and that sewage systems continue to pollute the water sources.

Rebellious clowns handed out some of Tirana's finest tabwater, which was refused by most passers by... The Water Daughters were dressed in costumes showcasting the problems and got passers by involved by asking them what they would do to contribute to cleaner water. The messages were pinned onto a washing line hung across the Ministry building. A large banner in front of the building stated: 'Are you killing time or is time killing you?' aimed at most Albanians very laid back attitude towards these problems. Supposedly the Minister was on holiday when asked for by the demonstrators...

National TV channels, newspapers as well as various media activists covered the action. The action was the final outcome of the week of workshops as part of the Art and Activism Caravan, which is currently touring the Balkans. 03-07-2006 09:06 | Climate Camp 2006 | Analysis | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Globalisation | London | World

Many different people predict a wide variety of timescales for peak oil and the downslide on the other side. Some people say we have already peaked and others say we've got maybe another six or even eight years. However, the nature of the problem means that we'll only know we've reach global peak after the event as we look back on falling production figures....
