Yesterday morning we received the sad news that Nepal plans to export 25 rhesus
macaque monkeys at somepoint 'soon', The story was reported in the Himalayan
Times, Nepal's main English newspaper and the government have since failed to
respond to enquiries from Nepal or elsewhere.

On November 12th, 2008 at 5.15 pm. six climate activists dressed in period costumes as suffragettes complete with big hats, marched into a municipal city council meeting in Gothenburg, the second largest city of Sweden.

Friday 6th of November saw Gateway to Hell activists in Belgium publicly launch a new initiative to stop all experiments on Non-Human Primates, (NHPs), in Belgium...and thus make Belgium the first country to entirely ban invasive primate research.

On Saturday, 8th November, several hundred people began a blockade of the main gate of the temporary disposal site in Gorleben by sitting on the street. The action began directly after the Big Demonstration against the Castor transport, held in Gorleben. The blockaders, who numbered over 1000, were not removed by the police until Monday afternoon - 2 days after their action began. Wood and rope constructions, including numerous unmanned tripods and several tents, supported the crowd, as well as several tractors, and two activist climbers who hung a banner between two streetlamps directly over the Main Gate.´

It was relatively easy for the public (or fellow activists) to approach the blockade even into Monday afternoon, just before the blockade was removed. There was a huge police presence but it seemed that most cars could pass without being checked or even stopped. To see this lively crowd felt impressive and the atmosphere was bright and happy.

8 November - A crowd of 16 000 people demonstrated against the Castor transport in Gorleben today, marching through the town and eventually settling just outside of it, near to the gates of the "Zwischenlager" - the temporary nuclear waste disposal site (also located in Gorleben) - to listen to speeches and music. Madsen, a very popular band, ended the event to a very lively and dance-happy crowd.

Good news: 20 000 police trying to prevent countless anti-nuclear waste activists from stopping the castor transport train weren´t able to stop them: a couple of activists managed to stop the train not far away from the french border by chaining themselves to the rails.

The following is a portrait of a very famous and traditional event within the anti-Castor activist's agenda: the forest „game“ called the „Ralley Monte Göhrde“.

On Friday, 7th December international guests from around the world were welcomed in the Wendland through an information event in Dannenberg with the title „Nuclear Companies Deal World Wide – Our Resistance is International, Connected, and Knows No Borders“. Attendees from countries like France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Russia, Finland, the United States and Canada participate in the resistance against the Castor transport (high level radioactive material) to Gorleben in the „Wendland“ (Lower Saxony). Some of them told about the situation in their countries. The event was supported with music from a Berlin band „Nümmes Straßenrock“.

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa is asking the international community to pay him to leave oil in the ground beneath the Yasuni National Park – possibly the world’s most biodiverse region and home to three indigenous communities who live in voluntary isolation. Anti-nuclear activists in Germany are gearing up for another transport of highly active nuclear waste to run through France and Germany from 7 to 9 November for dumping at the north German village of Gorleben. About 20,000 police will be deployed to guard the consignment against thousands of demonstrators. At  http://www.castor.de/ticker/index_en.html is a newswire run by the protest movement. It already has some run-up stories on it.

Percy Schmeiser is a Canadian farmer who has been sued by agricultural chemical and biotech giant Monsanto after some of Monsanto's genetically engineered Roundup Ready genes drifted onto his property from neighboring farms and contaminated his crop. Mr. Schmeiser, who is now 70 years old, has traveled the world speaking to a wide variety of audiences about his experience.
