Italy bans Pesticides linked to Bee Devastation

The Italian government banned the use of several neonicotinoid pesticides that are blamed for the deaths of millions of honeybees. The Ministero del Lavoro della Salute e delle Politiche Sociali issued an immediate suspension of the seed treatment products clothianidin, imidacloprid, fipronil and thiamethoxam used in rapeseed oil, sunflowers and sweetcorn

Solitaire leaving Irish waters....coming to a port near you?

Today, on day 10 of Maura Harrington's hunger strike, Shell finally issued a press release confirming that the Solitaire is leaving Irish waters this afternoon, heading to a UK port. Help needed to keep mounting pressure to get the vessel to permenantly stop its operation to lay the gas pipe line in Rossport.

Yesterday afternoon in solidarity with Maura Harrington, Shell to Sea activists occupied the roof of Shell's offices in belmullet hanging a banner reading: 'Solitaire Out Now'. They were accompanied by a demo of around 40 people.

Nepal may have banned the export of monkeys for vivisection, but the monkeys are still in the monkey farms and are still being used in research by American vivisectors based in Nepal.

This weekend they will be staging Nepal 2008 in London, please politely contact the organisers to express your concern about Nepal's continued exploitation of their monkeys and to ask them to use their influence to ensure the monkeys are saved from vivisection.

This afternoon seven Shell to Sea activists, including Etain Nímhongáin, youngest daughter of hunger striker Maura Harrington, paddled over a kilometre out to sea in Donegal Bay, in an attempt to communicate with Simon van der Plicht, Captain of the Solitaire.

The world's biggest pipe-laying ship, the Solitaire, has just arrived in Broadhaven Bay, Mayo. Security has significantly increased with vanloads of police; including special public order units.

The Solitaire arrives in Broadhaven Bay

The world's largest pipe-laying vessel, The Solitaire, arrived off the coast of Mayo, Ireland, this evening. The Solitaire is installing the offshore section of the Corrib Gas pipeline for Shell. The ship is supported by a number of Shell support craft, the Irish Police Water Unit and part of the Irish Navy.Stiff opposition is expected, with a local school teacher already on hunger strike. Hundreds of police officers are in the area, and the main road to the beach has been closed.

Even though the administrators of the German state knew there were serious problems in Asse II some years ago, it was not till this Summer that the topic reached public discussion at Government level. The former salt mine at Asse which is held up as a model for deep geological repository storage of radioactive material by many states including the UK has however been in public consumption all along. Coz it's leaking into the water table and then through cows into breakfasts all over Germany and the civilized milk consuming public. That gives a new twist to heavy water.
