Huntsman arrested in Essex after attack on hunt saboteur

A member of the Essex Farmers and Union hunt was arrested today (5 March 2005) after a hunt saboteur was struck on the head with a riding crop. The victim, a 29 year old woman, was not treated at the scene, but will be attending a doctor's surgery on Monday.

85 Year old to embark on 72 hour hunger strike

On 14th July last year, Joan Court went on a 48-hour hunger strike outside the site of the proposed animal research laboratory in South Parks Rd. This year she is going a step further and during World Week for Laboratory Animals is to embark on a 72-hour fast, starting at 1pm on Wednesday 20th April and ending at 1pm on Saturday 23rd April.

The BBC is failing in its supposed role as a public service broadcaster, says the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation (VVF), after giving widespread publicity to a seriously flawed, unscientific piece of propaganda claiming that vegan children risk damaging their health by excluding meat. The claim, made by Lindsay Allen of the US Agricultural Research Service, was given prominent billing by BBC News on-line and featured on the Jeremy Vine show and Ken Bruce shows on BBC Radio 2. It concerned Paul McCartney so much that he made a rare phone-in to the Jeremy Vine show.

Grave Threat to Civil Liberties in the UK

The government has recently tabled two amendments to the Serious Organised Crime Bill currently going through Parliament and due to become law by May 2005. These are breathtaking assaults on civil liberties. The laws have been presented to the public – via a compliant media - as necessary to prevent animal rights extremism. They go much further than this, however, and criminalise ordinary protest activity such as consumer boycotts or even handing out leaflets to the public.

London Animal Action’s bank account frozen

On 21 January 2005, London Animal Action (LAA) had its bank account frozen by a High Court order. The reason given was that LAA is liable for £197,000 of court costs from an injunction taken out by Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) under the Protection from Harassment Act. LAA’s bank account contained several thousand pounds that had been raised to buy a minibus.

An ITN cameraman had to run for his life to escape with footage of an appalling attack on 8 hunt saboteurs in West Sussex this afternoon (18th February 2005).

On the last day of legal hunting with hounds, a gang of up to 50 Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray hunt supporters and riders attacked the 8 brave saboteurs who had been trying to stop the hunt killing foxes near Petworth Park, Petworth, West Sussex.
