How the Swedish Pirate Party Platform Backfires on Free Software

The bullying of the copyright industry in Sweden inspired the launch of the first political party whose platform is to reduce copyright restrictions: the Pirate Party. Its platform includes the prohibition of Digital Restrictions Management, legalization of noncommercial sharing of published works, and shortening of copyright for commercial use to a five-year period. Five years after publication, any published work would go into the public domain.

UK Network launched as Belgium bans depleted uranium

Sunday marked the passage into force of Belgium’s 2007 decision to ban the use of uranium in all conventional weapons and armour after a series of unanimous parliamentary votes and a ban on all government investments in the manufacturers of the weapons. To mark the day, 11 UK NGOs have launched a UK Uranium Weapon Network to increase pressure on the UK government ahead of the 2010 UN General Assembly.

Is it just me, or do others recognise the potential threat embedded in such research projects once the Military Industrial Complex gets ahold of 'em? These lines of research just dredge up the fear that sci-fi such as the "terminator" may be less fi and more fact with every year. I hope that I am just paranoid. You be the judge.
