Danger Mouse screws around with EMI + other record copyrights

DJ Danger Mouse remixed the vocals from Jay-Z's The Black Album and the Beatles' White Album and called his creation The Grey Album. He sent about 3,000 promo copies out, and was soon served with a cease-and-desist notice from EMI, who owns the rights to the White Album master. Danger Mouse complied with EMI's order, but Stay Free! (sponsors of the Illegal Art Exhibit) and many other fans of the remix / bootleg scene and digital freedom activists continued distributing the record over the Internet. EMI sent legal threats to many of them as well but has since backed down, at least for the time being...

Etera 2 meeting, March the 25th 2004 in Sennigallia, will be the second meeting of the Telestrade or Telestreet. A national movement of micro-tv stations (sometimes transmitting to no more than a few blocks) scattered across Italy. Telestreet operates between the legal and technological cracks of the Italian mediascape. Literally squatting the shadows or blank spots where the signals of terrestrial broadcasters cannot reach, leaving shadows on the spectrum which the Telestreet groups occupy.

Freedom Hacklab open meeting and benefit this Saturday

The EU Parliament's Legal Affairs committee is set to rubber stamp a new text on Monday for the controversial EU Directive on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights, despite serious unanswered concerns from across the EU -- including the UK House of Lords. It will have been only six days since the final text, drafted in secret without any public analysis of its detailed national implications, was finally released to the European public.
