Although it may seem like a very nerdy get together, open source and free software is seen by many as anarchism in practice. The software the runs indymedia is all open source. With the advent of more userfriendly distributions of GNU/Linux like Ubuntu many non-geeks are starting to make the move away from the monopoly of Microsoft. This conference in Brighton will serve as an introduction to those that are considering a move to free software, those that want to learn more about it, as well as for experts who want to learn more about particular developments and pieces of software.

Police State in Europe encroached one more time on our lives when www.thepiratebay.org was taken out by raids pressured by the USA ( http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=1206). What about the hundreds of innocent businesses that were also taken out? Another shooting by UK cops, and music festivals = tear gas?

Meeting Report: Meet Up of North West Anti-ID Groups

Sunday 28th May saw a gathering of North-West groups opposed to ID cards meeting at the Basement in Manchester to share ideas and combine efforts in opposing ID cards. Many groups were represented, from Nottingham to Liverpool and beyond, and loads of interesting discussion was generated, as you can tell by the length of this post! The meeting lasted for around five hours, including a lunch break.
