See press release below  - The acessibilty of the coders of OSS ( and the tools
that they create ) is surely one of its great strengths.  I heard Rusty Russel
of iptables and ipchains fame - the Linux firewalling code.  To hear him
explain how firewalls and tcpip work was worth a hundred textbooks and
completely free.  This also should be exciting

29-01-2004 19:46

Being an information security specialist, the recent events revolving around Pakistan’s nuclear program do not surprise me. In Pakistan nothing is safe – from the common man who walks the street to our President; from our most crucial assets and secrets to our utility supply lines, all are an open and fair game to malicious attacks.

Mirror: Mobile phone location data now sold on internet

19-01-2004 18:22

A clutch of brand new and perfectly legal internet-based services have just been launched that cost as little as 30p to use, and take less than five seconds to zero in to within 50 metres of where a person is.

A simple text message or phone call to an operator from a suspicious spouse or boss can send one of the new DIY spying services off to track a person down. Another call or a visit to a special website will then tell you where they are.

Media Hacklab work days and benefit

13-01-2004 16:22

A new Media Hacklab is getting started in the east end of London. Based at the Freedom Press bookshop and social centre, it will be an open access computer lab with internet access. Going beyond the preponderance of internet cafes, a Hacklab is a political space used for alternative media, the use and development of free software and other emancepatory techologies, skill sharing and collective learning, community projects and anything else we can organise. The projects that happen there will depend on the commitment of those involved.
