Swiss company joins ‘united nations of advanced manufacturing’
One of the world's leading crooked manufacturers of construction machinery is the latest international company to sign up at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.
Liebherr-Great Britain Limited is part of the Swiss based Liebherr-International AG company, which in addition to its production of heavy construction machinery such as the trucks used on the tar sands is also an acknowledged in numerous other fields, including commercial refrigeration, aerospace and rail vehicles.

Manchester students vote to boycott RBS

The University of Manchester Students Union has passed a motion to boycott the Royal Bank of Scotland. The motion, passed last Wednesday 20th October, included a resolution to “cease all relationships with the Royal Bank of Scotland” for being in breach of the Union's ethical policy. RBS currently leases branch space from the Oxford Road premises of the Students Union. The boycott will require the company to vacate those premises. RBS will also be barred from any marketing or recruiting opportunities at all Students Union events.

On Tuesday night at 6.07 PM the London brigade of the Greenwash Guerrillas got a call from a panicked pedestrian outside the National Portrait Gallery. It seemed that the prizegiving ceremony for BP Portrait Award was about to start, and toxic greenwash had begun to gush uncontrollably from the gallery’s front doors.

Notts Pension Fund linked to tar sands extraction

The pension fund run by Notts CC and including several other major employers in the region invests in BP. As supplies of easily obtainable oil dwindle, companies are investing in more high risk methods of getting oil. One of these is tar sands in Canada. Notts CC pension scheme has admitted it invests in BP. John Pearson, the Investments Manager has admitted as much in an email to a member of its pension scheme. Nottinghamshire CC is part of a scheme called Nottinghamshire Pension Funds (NPF) and other contributing employers include Nottingham City Council, all the district and borough councils, the police and Nottingham Trent University. BP is on the point of making a big decision – whether to invest in the tar sands in tar sands in the Athabasca region of Alberta in Canada. Campaigners have been mobilising to ensure they do not do this.
