Theses on the Basic Income Discussion

11-07-2008 11:14 | Social Struggles | World

Poverty can only be overcome globally. A change of perspective is necessary so social assistance is seen as positive and not as negative. Without a committment to human dignity and a human future, barbarism seems inevitable given the vast numbers of economic refugees. Radical redistribution, nationally and internationally, is the command of the hour. More articles are available at www.basicincome.org.

Rights granted for Great Apes in Spain

05-07-2008 03:03 | Animal Liberation | Education | Social Struggles | World

"If you look at the course of western history you'll see that we're slowly granting basic rights to everyone. A long time ago only kings had rights. Then rights were extended to property-owning white men. Then all men. Then wymyn [women]. Then children. Then the mentally retarded. Now we're agonizing over the extension of basic rights to homosexuals and animals. We need to finally accept that all sentient creatures are deserving of basic rights." -- Moby (1)

The Great Rwanda "Genocide Coverup"...UK US involvement

04-07-2008 23:56 | Repression | Social Struggles | World

Everyones seen Hotel Rwanda. What they may not be aware of is that the 'genocide' in Rwanda in 1994,which had its origins with the assassination of president Habyarimana (a Hutu), seems to have been carried out by now president Kagame.
Whereas Habyarimana was backed by France and Belgium, Kagamas supporters are UK and US....the same pair who have been attacking Zimbabwes government. The evidence is that the pentagon enabled the assassination of president Habyaimana to facilitate 'regime change' in Rwanda. This implicates US and UK govts in genocide.
THATS NOT ALL. There is evidence US interfered in the ICTRs investigations, as reported by australian policeman-turned-lawyer Michael Hourigan.

But this is bound to resuscitate the Furies of the Filipino-American War of 1899-1902, and arouse the revolutionary energies of 90 million Filipinos against US imperialism and global capital--a future that Washington is not yet prepared to contemplate.

BBC should not lie about Zimbabwe

30-06-2008 02:16 | Social Struggles | World

CAN the BBC tell the truth about Zimbabwe when its senior managers are appointed by the United Kingdom government and will they be fired if they step out of line and become realistic about Zimbabwe?
Along with others like the New York Times, Sky News and CNN, the broadcaster is notably egregious, given its reputation that's now decidedly undeserved.
The BBC has muted its criticism of Zimbabwe and framed it in the continuing “cycle of violence and impunity that has plagued the Southern African country for so many years.”
However, the agenda of the BBC, New York Times and ‘their friends’ is clear: ignore realpolitik, press for Mugabe’s exit, and in the process, disenchant members and supporters of his Zanu PF party.
