13-02-2012 17:53 | Genoa | Repression | World

Diaz
Arriving in Berlin for the Berlinale, it was with trepidation and excitement that i was thrown into the core of the Film Festival. As one of the victims from Diaz, i had waited a long time to meet the cast of Domenico Procacci's Diaz: Don't Clean Up This Blood and also to see the film for the first time.

The Syrian Civil War and the Media Propaganda Offensive

11-02-2012 20:02 | Analysis | Other Press | Repression | World

The 'Free Syrian Army' - the so-called 'rebel' group armed and funded by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar - is involved in a violent insurgency against the Syrian government. That is not just my opinion, it is the view of the Arab League observer mission sent into the country to gather evidence against the ruling Assad regime. But when reports didn't fit the political agenda, the League pulled the plug on the mission, and the Syrian government was subtlely blamed.

Following on from the £1/2million Breach of the Peace trial to silence accusations of paedophilia amongst Scotland’s establishment figures, and the laying of a complaint against Angiolini for the use of public funds in a private legal action come new accusations of corruption and cover up at the highest levels of the Scottish Government.

Censorship: Britain bans Press TV

21-01-2012 20:56 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Repression | South Coast | World

For the first time, British government censors have banned a 24-hour news channel from British viewers. As of the afternoon, UK-time, 20th January 2012, viewers of Press TV, an avowedly anti-imperialist TV channel headquartered in Tehran, saw the words “Channel Unavailable” when tapping their clicker. And so the war on Iran by Britain, Israel and the U.S. continues using propaganda, proxy militants and asymmetric warfare.

"I learned from William Singletary's wife, Jeannette, that he died this morning. Bill was a courageous man who lived fighting to make the truth known that Mumia is innocent in the shooting death of police officer Daniel Faulkner. For that Bill suffered severe personal and financial consequences. I've known Bill since June 1990 when he came forward with his eyewitness testimony for Mumia and as a witness at the PCRA hearing in 1995, when I was co-counsel for Mumia." -Rachel Wolkenstein

Wukan Peasant Victory Sets Stage For Chinese Turmoil

Villagers building barricades in an effort to prevent police attack
The villagers of Wukan in south-east China appear to have won a victory over the misnamed Communist Party regime, and prevented the sale of some communal land. This triumph is the result of direct action, direct democracy, and the community's ability to get the word out, in spite of government censorship. These factors will be crucial in 2012, as factory workers come into conflict with multinational corporations in the cities.
