Bahrain: Sleeping protestors attacked by armed riot police

The scene of the attack
Hundreds of riot police are reported to have attacked the protestors who have been occupying the Pearl Roundabout in Manama. The attack took place at about 3.45am ocal time. Many including women and children were sleeping when the police attacked according to Maryam Alkhawaja of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights who is on site. She reports that there are wounded, and that people are chanting "we demand the fall of the regime".

The roundabout was occupied on Tuesday, after an estimated 20 000 people joined a march following the death of a second protestor who was killed while gathering for the funeral of Ali Abdulhadi Mushaima, who died while protesting for human rights in the village of Daih, near Manama. Others are tweeting asking for help, reporting indiscriminate firing(possibly of rubber bullets) and tear gas, as well as heavy use of batons. They say all exits have been blocked. At least one death and 200 injuries have been reported. It is also reported that the internet has been disabled.

Angry protest follows second death in Bahrain

Thousands of Bahrainis demonstrated against the government after a second protester died in clashes with police on Tuesday 15 February. The protests in a country, which saw deadly unrest in the 1990s, prompted Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone to voice concern about next month's Grand Prix, which opens the new Formula One season.

Pearl Roundabout
A crowd estimated at between 20 000 and 50 000 has descended on Bahrain's Pearl Roundabout in Manama as pro-democracy demonstrations continue to grow. Today's protest follows the killing of 31 year old Fadel Salman Matrouk, who was present at a gathering outside the Salmaniya hospital for the funeral of Ali Abdulhadi Mushaima. Ali died on Monday when security forces attacked a demonstration for human rights in the village of Daih, near Manama.

Spying company, Vericola Ltd, uncovered after incompetence

A spying firm with corporate clients including E.ON, Scottish Power and Scottish Coal has been identified after accidentally emailing the activists it was spying on. Kent-based Vericola Ltd has been targeting groups including the Camp for Climate Action and London Rising Tide with low-level infiltration. Other groups are encouraged to check their lists and share any experiences.

Three of union activists injured in Egypt

When the ongoing Egyptian revolution started on 25th January, a high-profile Egyptian military delegation was in the US requesting 'help' with technology to fight the 'enemies'.
