Press statement regarding the extraordinary open meeting of the North Kelvin Community Council on 28 February 2011

●The North Kelvin Community Council (NKCC) failed to reflect the views of the community

●New City Vision (NCV) did not present its own proposals but used a hired consultant, leaving NCV’s Steven Black free to issue instructions to Glasgow City Cllr Jim MacKechnie from the sidelines
●The North Kelvin Meadow Campaign calls for a further meeting with GCC in attendance and Steven Black from NCV available to answer questions

Ever since the first Arab uprisings in Tunisia people in Scotland have taken to the streets to show their support and solidarity for the people in North Africa, the most recent demonstration being Saturday 26th February 2011.

West Glasgow Against Poverty (WestGAP) is an anti poverty charity and community advice centre based in the West of Glasgow.

Glasgow University students are currently occupying a building against the attacks by the university administration on the Hetherington research club and the cuts agenda of the government and the council.

Dominic O’Hara, a 20-year-old student at Strathclyde University, was arrested on 29 January 2011 as he left a protest against cuts and in defence of local services. He is being held in Baird Street police station and will appear in Glasgow District Court number two (1 Carlton Place, next to the Sheriff Court) on Monday charged with obstruction and assaulting a police officer.
