Assange should be Person of Year: Time needs a pair

17-12-2010 15:57 | Anti-militarism | Free Spaces | Other Press | World

"Reaction, meanwhile, was swift by readers on Time's website, including Avijit Paul who wrote, "So I guess Time has chickened out by not making Julian Assange as the person of the year. It's a shame when [Assange] was not the top when the biggest chunk of readers say he is."
Time reader Tony Castro pondered: "Wasn't Mark Zuckerberg in tenth place? I will spread this injustice like wildfire knocking your readership down to zero."

Let’s use the net (Facebook. Twitter, etc.) to demand that Mr. Zuckerman declines the offer in favor of the real winner, Julian Assange, Wikileaks, and net neutrality. We better or we might soon loose this important freedom, like so many others. We can do this.

Desperate to stop the "truth telling

15-12-2010 19:15 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Free Spaces | World

"The imperialists of the world are desperate to stop the "truth telling" of wikileaks. To do so they have thrown away the cover of respect of "freedom of speech" in particular and "support of democratic principals" in general. They are naked now in their hatred of democracy.

Organize, resist, do all that you can to protect these true heros from attack. Most importantly, aid them in their efforts to reveal the truths that just may "set us free."

1697 duplicate wikileaks sites and growing

12-12-2010 02:12 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Repression | World

" this document has those 1697 links to wikileaks mirror sites. Make it impossible for this information to be “disappeared” like so many victims of CIA/client state butchery. This is an opportunity that will not come often. Take advantage of it now. Spread very, very widely."

PS Also, please don't let the U.S. have Julian Assange. If that happens he will be torturted and likely killed. He deserves our admiration and protection.

Wikileaks: A big dangerous US government con job

10-12-2010 20:35 | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Social Struggles | World

The story on the surface makes for a script for a new Oliver Stone Hollywood thriller. A 39-year old Australian hacker holds the President of the United States and his State Department hostage to a gigantic cyber “leak,” unless the President leaves Julian Assange and his Wikileaks free to release hundreds of thousands of pages of sensitive US Government memos. A closer look at the details, so far carefully leaked by the most ultra-establishment of international media such as the New York Times, reveals a clear agenda. That agenda coincidentally serves to buttress the agenda of US geopolitics around the world from Iran to Russia to North Korea. The Wikileaks is a big and dangerous US intelligence Con Job which will likely be used to police the Internet.

Wikileaks and media disinformation: North Korea, Iran and Belarus

08-12-2010 22:12 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Sheffield | World

Much is being written in the mainstream press about the internet whistle-blowing website Wikileaks. But the interpretation and significance of those Wikileaks stories disseminated throughout the corporate media must be subjected to careful and critical analysis.

There is little that is particularly shocking about the recent Wikileaks. What is striking about many of the latest leaks is their conformity to the lies and disinformation regularly diffused by the mainstream media.

The upshot of this is that, while exposés of American war crimes should damage America’s imperial ambitions, other ‘leaks’ could actually serve the opposite purpose, especially when they are uncritically reported as ‘revelations’. In this article we are going to look at two examples of how Wikileaks stories could be used to further a US imperialist agenda.

2005: The US and North Korea

"The North [Korea]...wants to phase out its nuclear program, but through dialogue, since the U.S. is directly threatening the North with nuclear weapons."
"..the U.S. should come with sincerity and honest minds to resolve this issue...the current U.S. proposal that we [North Korea] dismantle our nuclear program, after which they will give assurances is not fair - the two gestures should occur simultaneously.."

Many more mirrors

07-12-2010 10:17 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"Saudi Arabia is a very conservative Arab nation, structured by the imperial powers themselves. That “kingdom’s” animosity to a much more nationalist formation like Iran is predictabe and comes as little surprise. Countries like Syria and movements such as Hezbollah and Hamas certainly do not wish for Tehran to be attacked with “shock and awe.” (That an ancient city like Bagdadd suffered such was a genuine “crime against humanity” and that should never be forgotten). Israel and the U.S. have simply not allowed “popular” arab governments to exist. Conservative Arab regimes care no more for their people than GW Bush cared for the poor children of New Orleans."

Wikileaks hounded?

05-12-2010 18:17 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"This is the first time we have seen an attempt at the international community level to censor a website dedicated to the principle of transparency. We are shocked to find countries such as France and the United States suddenly bringing their policies on freedom of expression into line with those of China. We point out that in France and the United States, it is up to the courts, not politicians, to decide whether or not a website should be closed.
Meanwhile, two Republican senators, John Ensign and Scott Brown, and an independent Joe Lieberman, have introduced a bill that would make it illegal to publish the names of U.S. military and intelligence agency informants. This could facilitate future prosecutions against WikiLeaks and its founder. But a criminal investigation is already under way and many U.S. politicians are calling vociferously for Assange’s arrest."

What are they so affraid of? Good reason to support Wiki!

The persecution of WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange

03-12-2010 17:42 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Free Spaces | World

"The documents obtained by WikiLeaks—only a small fraction of which have been released so far—help expose what is a permanent conspiracy against the democratic rights of the world’s population: from covering up US bombings of civilians in Yemen, to working behind the scenes to obstruct the prosecution of CIA agents guilty of torture, to spying on UN officials in violation of international treaties.
Those who are leading the campaign against WikiLeaks are themselves responsible for horrific atrocities. In the face of allegations from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that WikiLeaks had placed lives in danger, Assange gave an appropriate response in an interview with Time magazine. WikiLeaks, he noted, “has never caused an individual … to come to any sort of physical harm or to be wrongly imprisoned and so on. That is a record compared to the organizations that we are trying to expose who have literally been involved in the deaths of hundreds or thousands or, potentially over the course of many years, millions.”
